Success after IF

am i the only mom that doesn't

give their babies sweets? i'm trying to hold off as long as i can on offering cake, ice cream, cookies, chips, etc. we were just at a first birthday party and it seemed like every baby but ours had a sugar cookie or some other sweet. they'll be one in a month and they'll get cake on their b-day. i'd like to avoid sweets until they can actually ask for them and at that point still limit it. am i insane?

My daughter didn't have cake/ice cream until she was 1.  Now she has had bites of cookies/cake when we have been at other parties.  We don't give her anything like that at home or on a regular basis though...

  • We don't plan on letting DS have sweets until he is a year old either and even then, we plan to limit it to special occasions.

  • I'm staying away from most sweets with my girls.  They got cake on their birthday but that's the only real sweet I've given them.  They've had some apple cinnamon graham cracker sticks, but those are made with whole grains, so I don't think of them as real sweet treats.

As for other junk, they've had some of that.  They eat quite a few hot dogs because sometimes I'm too lazy to make them something else.

My dd only got sweet stuff a handfull of times before her 1st birthday.  Now gets sweets from her gma, I think it's ok for gma to spoil her a bit and she's not over there every day or anything so it's gma's prerogative.

She does get "other junk" but I try to do junk as healthy as possible like all natural chicken dogs and that kind of thing.  Everything in moderation is my motto

  • I was PISSED this weekend to find out that puffs had suger in them. I too am trying to avoid suger or sweets in DS diet till at least a year.

  • I waited to give him sugar until a year ( I did not count the sugar in puffs or things like that as "sugar") I was more talking about sweets. He does have something sweet every once in a while. It's FUN to give him an ice cream cone and see him get excited.... do they need sweets no- but do we? It's the experience and it's so much fun to have them try new things.

  • Reed eats super healthy alllll the time.  He has the best diet of anyone I know.  LOL  So when we go to a birthday party and there is cake, he definitely gets a bite.  It might be different for me if he was a fussy eater...then I wouldn't want him to ONLY be wanting sweets and junk.
  • no, the only sweets E has ever gotten was his birthday cake *which was dairy and egg free*

He does get some commercial prepared foods, like the goldfish he got today, but for the most part, he eats veggies, grains, beans and some meats.

He doesnt have juice either, he does get sweet potato fries but for the most part, I need his calories to count, he is so little.
