I am 33 weeks pregnant, set to deliver at Winchester Hospital. I just took the childbirth class/tour and found out there is a possibility of having a semi private room where you share a bathroom with another family and my husband wouldn't be allowed to stay overnight. This really bothers me, to the point that I want to switch. But I am not sure if Emerson Hospital has the same set up where some of the rooms are semi private? Has anyone delivered at either of these places and have any input? Thanks.
Re: anyone deliver @ Winchester or Emerson Hospital?
One of my friends delivered at Emerson and she loved it! She had a scheduled c-section and was very happy with the care. She recommended it so much I've transferred to the same practice (Concord OB/GYN) so when the time comes (I'm not pregnant yet!) I can deliver there also.
Emerson Hospital also has a lot of info on the birthing center online as well. Hope that helps! Good luck!
I delivered my son at Emerson last year, and I have to agree - it's a great place to deliver. They just redid their whole maternity ward, and all of the rooms are private. Many of them also look out on peaceful woods, and the window seat turns into a bed in case your DH will be staying with you. My DH stayed with me all four nights I was there (I had a c-section), and we both were given 3 free meals/day. It's a great place.
That being said, I'm pregnant with my second and considering switching to a doctor at Newton Wellesley. I'm currently at Concord OBGYN, and I have mixed feelings about them. I only really trust one of the four doctors, and I don't have a lot of faith in the nurses. I had a complicated miscarriage before my son and I'm having a complication this time around, and both times the ultrasound tech in the office failed to notice the problem. Only after I had ultrasounds done at Emerson by the hospital techs did they find what was wrong. So, even though I love Emerson and would be sad not to deliver there again, I think that trusting my doctor and his/her staff comes first.
Just my two cents
