3rd Trimester

Ladies working up until the end...

I'm due on Sunday, but it looks like the little booger is nice and comfy in my belly. SUPER! anyway, even though i don't work on my feet all day (i'm a software engineer), my feet are swollen, very painful, and I just have nothing left in me. BUT i dont' want to use up any vacation time/maternity leave time and just sit and home and stare at the ceiling.

if you're working up until the end and are ALMOST there, how are you getting through it? i need a pep talk...advice on swelling (yes my feet are elevated)...anything! Embarrassed

I am a week behind you and am quickly running out of steam (I think I was out of steam by last Friday).  My back is killing me and nothing I do helps.

I want to stop working but like you don't want to use up my PTO/maternity leave.

I guess we just have to keep thinking of why we are working until the end...it's so hard.  Hang in there

  • Just take it one day at a time, and know you're not the only one! Your LO will be here very soon! :)

For the swelling, I drink a ridiculous amount of water and wear tennis shoes instead of open shoes, and it works...kind of. GL!

sorry if this is a dumb question, but why would tennis shoes help instead of open shoes?

  • I have an extremely supportive boss and company - I take naps in the nurses office or leave earlhy whenever I feel like I'm pushing it.
  • I am right there with you.  I am not focused at work, my back hurts, my ribs hurt (he keeps a foot shoved in them at all times) but I don't want to use up my maternity leave so here I sit, bumping for the most part of the day.

  • I am do Wed. Take it one day at a time...actually one hour at a time.

It will be worth it later to have more time with your baby. I snuck out at lunch to get a mani/pedi. Everyday I try to get out even if it is to walk a little or go get lunch. It is def getting harder now b/c I am so big and the heat/humidity but I am getting through it.

  • We're due the same day, and I'm also working till the end at an office job.  I have no advice though.  I've spent most of today pleading for LO to come out already so I can stop going to work for a while.  Today was the first time I saw toe knuckles and feet bones in months, but usually I can barely wedge my feet in my shoes.  All I do is elevate them, drink plenty of water, and hope someday I won't have water balloons attached to my ankles anymore.
  • I'm in the same boat, but I've just sort of decided that if I go past my due date, I'm just going to start my leave.  It's too hard to try not to take on anything too big but yet still be here.  Besides, I'm totally mentally checked out, so I'm not sure how much value I'm adding at this point anyway!

  • I am working up to the end. I work from home and am on the phone all day. My feet have been swollen since my flight on Thurs. I am just drinking a lot of water, elevating my feet and wearing flip flops.

Taking a lot of breaks helps. I get bursts of energy here and there.

  • I was due yesterday and still working. Some days are better than others. I know if I am still here next Monday I will not be a happy camper. I don't really have much advice though.

  • They are not pretty but I have found that compression socks have helped my feet a lot.  I found some at Walgreens they go just to below my knees.  Good Luck and hang in there.
  • I am working up until the end. My motivation? Not focusing on the days at all and the money that will be needed for my PTO. I need her to hold off until Friday at least so I can have a big paycheck. As silly as it sounds, packing an amazing lunch, keeping treats (aka rice crispy treats), and staying busy helps me. As sadistic as it sounds I look at it as I have another three weeks left so I am less apt to get all excited and focus on how much I want her to be here or at least on her way.
  • I'm due a week from Wednesday, but I'll probably have a c/s either Monday or Tuesday of next week.  So I'm working till this Thursday and taking Friday as my only day off.  I guess I'm the same as you, just sitting at the computer with my feet up on a chair wondering what to do to pass the time. I guess I thought I was being induced early this week (that plan was scrapped when my DS measured really big at 36 weeks) so I have all my work caught up and I really have nothing to do.  So I found some work related reading material that I'm going over right now for no apparent reason. Just doing everything I can to look busy (like posting on here and on another site I frequent).

I bought some compression stockings at the pharmacy and when my feet get really swollen I wear those.  They aren't pretty, but they do help a little bit!

  • I'm working until the end, and am taking LOTS of breaks and drinking TONS of water.  Though I am also leaving early a few days a week.  This is my last week?I'm due next Thursday, August 6th.

  • I am not even close to most of you, but do plan on working up until the end.  Drinking lots of water and walking helps.  Also, when you get home maybe you can soak your feet in an ice cold foot bath.  Helps and feels great in the heat!!!  GL!
