anyone else opted not to have a baby shower?

I know the ladies in my department are planning on throwing me a shower.  

However my GF asked if I wanted one.  I have been debating back and forth on this issue.  I asked DH and he said it was up to me.  I told my GF that I am very grateful but would like to opt out and not have one.

I'm half Chinese / Vietnamese and in our culture we do not have baby showers.  Instead, we have a big celebration when the baby turns 1 mo.  So I asked my friend to help with the 1mo celebration. 

I don't want to have a baby shower were everyone brings a gift and then for me to invite them to the 1mo celebration and for them to bring another gift.  I just feel like that is too much.  I rather keep with tradition and have one big party at 1month.

    If I were going to throw a "meet the baby" party, I wouldn't have a shower either. ?I wouldn't want people to feel obligated to buy me gifts twice, or maybe not come to the 1 month party because they already came to the shower. ?I think you made the right choice! ?Keep tradition alive! ?=)
