3rd Trimester

I got called huge first thing this morning

I stepped outside to go to work and a neighbor saw me and said: "OH MY GOODNESS, YOU'VE REALLY GOTTEN BIG!!!"

1) Thanks, I hadn't noticed. I really appreciate you pointing out your fine grasp of the obvious.

2) Why is it that the people that say this the most (to me anyway) are always seriously obese to begin with. This is the 2nd woman I know to say this that is not exactly Kate Moss.

  • i would like to know why it's okay to comment on a pg woman's size.  i don't make comments like that to non-pg people.  i think i should start.

  • I hate it when people say that! I'm only 27 weeks and two weeks ago I had a stranger tell me that it looked like I was about ready to have my baby... and then yesterday my sister told me that from the back i just look really fat. it took all i had not to cry. (she is only 13, but still, no one would like to hear that! especially not a hormonal pregnany woman!)

  • My sister keeps asking me, "are you sure you're not further along than the the doctors say you are?  I am so afraid I'm going to have a huge baby!

  • I think everyone should get the memo that it's only ok to say "Wow, you look great" or something along those lines.  Big, huge, having a very healthy baby (implying your big), or other size related comments should be kept to ones self.  I'm not sure what some people think; we're carrying another person in there.  Of course we?re going to have a growing belly.  If it?s any consolation I?ve had people tell me I?m going to have a big baby and the next day someone will say I?m looking small for being this far along.  Everyone has their own strange perceptions.  I say ignore the negative!

  • People are funny.  One of my colleagues asked me if i was "past term" two weeks ago.  Others are surprised that I'm more than 7 months pregnant, so go figure.  Just laugh it off--it's for a good cause.

This morning my husband cracked me up:  "Honey, I didn't want to say anything, and please don't take this the wrong way, but it seems like you've put on some weight over the past 8 months or so."
