Meet the Baby instead of Baby Shower?

Hey ladies, I'm working on a blog entry and was wondering if anyone on this board decided to forego a baby shower and have a meet the baby instead?  If so, and you wouldn't mind sharing, I'd love to hear what made you come to your decision, and if it has already happened, what your meet the baby was like?

    You might get more responces if you post this on PAL. In my opinion though, I think unless it's a 2nd child, a Meet the Baby would be too stressful for me. Plus you really dont want a newborn around too many people before their 2 months shots.

    We are not having any showers, but might do something after he's here.  One is due to anxiety after so many losses.  Although it is much better, there is still the feeling that we'd "curse" this pregnancy with a shower.  Irrational, I know.  The other is we've had lots of people say they are giving us stuff their kids don't use anymore, so we just don't need a lot of stuff and don't want to go overboard with things we don't actually need.

    My cousin had her baby a whole month early which totally changed our shower plans. So instead, we had a meet the baby by default. It was honestly a lot of fun! People who wouldn't have gotten to come up twice in such a short period of time, got to not only come to the shower, but also see the baby when she was a newborn so it was great. Everyone got to hold her and gifts could be more personalized which was nice. Either way, i'm sure everyone will enjoy themselves :)
