2nd Trimester

weight gain?

i know it's asked a lot and it's annoying but I can't find a recent post with responses. I'm totally NOT showing and feeling like a chubbo (clearly the weight is not the baby)...I think I'm on track though for weight gain...just wanted see where others are? I can't find a good recommended weight gain by week online.

15 weeks on Wed, gained 8lbs

 Thanks!

Re: weight gain?

  • Everyone is different, so there is no way you can compare your weight gain to others.  For example, I am almost 25 weeks have gained 37 pounds.  Don't look online for it - ask your doctor.

  • I had gained 12 lbs. at 15 weeks. Who's to say what's normal when it comes to pregnancy? Everyone is soooo different. I'm not worried about my weight gain. When the doc starts to worry, than I'll worry!
  • I gained 10 lbs first tri- then nothing until probably this weekend (thanks to a visit with family). So I was in your same position, and it rounded out and turned into a real baby bump eventually. My Dr says 5-10 lbs first tri is ideal, but remember that everyone is different.

  • I had gained 8 lbs up until the 20th week.  I've doubled that now.

  • I hadn't gained anything at my 12w appt.  But I'm starting with some extra weight on me!  I was already on track to have gained about a pound a week at this point in my first pg.

  • Everyone and every pregnancy is so different.  With my first I had gained 8 lbs in the first trimester.  This time around I only gained 9lbs at 20 weeks.  Sounds like you are right on track!!  There is nothing to worry about!

SCORE! Huge thank you for that link. I was beginning to feel like a beached whale -- which is quite easy in this state, I think. But according to that site, I am right within the healthy weight gain range. Puts my mind a bit at ease.

  • Everyone's different. By 8 weeks I had gained 7 lbs.I stayed at that 7lb gain until 20 weeks, and in the past 2 weeks I've gained 5 lbs for a total of 12lbs at 22 weeks.

  • I'm 16 weeks and have gained 7lbs.  I think I'm pretty normal, but we'll see what my doctor says today at my appointment. I was overweight pre-pregnancy so I know I shouldn't be gaining as much as thinner women, so it'll be interesting to see what the doc says!

I swear half of that 7lbs has GOT to be my boobs...they're huge now!

You are my new best friend!  I've already gained 20 pounds!

  • I have actually lost 5 lbs since finding out I was pg.  I was worried at first but my doctor said this is ok (as long as it doesn't extend far into the 2nd tri and 3 tri).

My OB said to not watch my weight but to just make sure I eat healthy, drink lots of water and eat an "extra" medium snack/small meal a day to get those 300 extra calories.

  • Everyone gains weight at a different pace. I woudln't compare yourself to anyone else. As long as your Dr is okay with what you have gained, or havent gained, then I'd be ok with that. I'm 26 weeks 4 days and have gained 12 lbs. Had a Dr appt this morning and my Dr kinda made a mean comment. He said, WOW, you gained 6 lbs this month. Gotta keep an eye on that. I was thinking, geez. Ive only gained 12 lbs total! Didnt really care for this Dr. But all the other Dr's I have seen have said my weight is fine. So as long as your Dr is happy. Then I'd go with that. Good luck!

Week 13. Now that you've finished your first trimester, you can start eating for two?a little. Plan on gaining about 12 pounds during the next 14 or so weeks.

Week 27. You may be distressed to see the numbers on the scale creep (OK, jump) up: From here on out, you'll probably be gaining about 1 pound a week. This still only translates to about 300 extra calories a day, though.

This is what I am going by...if you go by this you should gain 25 pounds.  Now my dr wants me to only gain 17 pounds and so far I haven't gained anything.  Check with your dr and see what they say.  Like everyone else said everyone is different but the above is what I am going by.

  • I was an average weight and healthy build before pregnancy, and at 20 weeks right now I've already gained about 18-19 pounds.

I started gaining really quickly and it's started to slow down. I feel really good though and I eat very healthy foods in normal amounts- no more than I ate before getting pregnant. My doctor hasn't said anything so I'm not going to worry about it:)

  • I too worry about not gaining enough weight.  I'm 17 weeks and have gained only about 7 pounds.  There is a weight tracker on www.babyzone.com that will show you the healthy range based upon your starting weight.  I'm at the low end of the range but that puts me on track to gain 25 pounds total.
