What names are your parents/ in-laws called by your kids...or what do they want to be called when the first grandchild arrives? My mom and dad are having a tough time coming up with the grandparent names! Thanks!!
Both of our parents are mamaw and papaw- DS can now use their last names to differentiate between the two. I would imagine Lily will call them the same.
Don't get me started. I had no idea this would be such a biggie, but I guess since we are having the first grandchild on both sides, these major decisions must be made. :P
We were able to shoot down MIL's desire to be called by "Mama __(her first name)". Great-grandma has decided on "Gigi" which is fine. Not sure what the two grandmas will end up deciding on.
I was just a little bothered by the "Mama _____" thing. I'm the mama!
My mom is going to be Nanny, my dad is already Grandpa, DH's mom is going to be Gigi, and his dad wants to be Pap-paw. All the parents chose their own names, and I'm cool with them all (I actually invented Gigi when DH and I played an April Fool's joke on her 4 years ago!), except Pap-paw... makes me wanna puke.

This is the question of the century in my family. This will be the first grandchild for both our parents and the first great grandchild as well so it is turning into quite a comedy. I have a nana, papa, and grammy and assume that my LO will just call them what I do. Our parents can't seem to make up their minds, though. So far we have heard Nana, papa, grammy (yes this will be confusing!), pops, hondo (the nickname my brothers call my dad...hoping this one fades away), Big Al, and Gram. The problem we seem to run into is that our parents keep choosing the same names. I don't think it's a problem, but they are all concerned. I'm secretly hoping the baby ends up mispronouncing their names and decides for themselves!!
My grandma was always called Nanny...so DS will probably call her the same. My grandpa was Pa-pa to me. Not sure what my dad will be called, but DH's parents will be Nan and Grandad.
Hehehehehe....ok so my MIL is "G" because that is what her friends grandkids call her and she liked it:) My father is Pop-pop, my step-mother is Mima and my FIL is Grandpa Tom (he is never around....I do not think my daughter would even recognize him. As for my mom.....:) well she always wanted to be called "sequel" from an episode of The Cosby Show but for some reason she has adopted the name "Crazylady". It cracks me up and I love it bc my mom is so off the wall (in a good/safe way). My niece and nephew call my mom Yetta (jewish). Other names...."ga", nana......
You should let them pick with you so it is unique to each .... although you deserve veto power
