If you are bored, some home improvement pictures in post

The house that I live in was built in 1940. I have lived here for 2 years and have dying to rip up the carpets and see what is underneath. Well, I decided to rip out the carpet in my foyer and pray for the best and was pleasantly surprised by what I found. Now I'm dying to rip out the rest of the first now that I know what I have, but unfortunately, budget constraints put that a good 6 months out. I still have a lot of work to do and painting and stuff, but I feel like this is a good start.Smile

  • I have very similar woodwork in my house. And holy crap! Are those floors without doing anything? No sanding or staining? We have hard wood floors under our carpets, but we aren't sure what the overal condition of the wood is. I'm hoping it is like yours!

  • Beautiful! We ripped out our entire upstairs and were very happy! Thankfully ours were oak bc our dogs would tear that beautiful floor of yours to shreds. Our house is from 1959 so I completely understand home renovations. Gl! It feels great when a project is complete.

Yup, I haven't done anything to them yet except to wipe off the dirt with a wet rag. They don't need to be sanded at all, I'm just going to buff them and put on a new top coat and be done with it. I am so freaking excited that they are in such good condition and can't for the life of me figure out why anyone would cover them up.?

  • Love the floors.  Amazing!  Did you do this yourself?  How you would find the time with 3 kids to refinish your floors is beyond me!
  • Our house was built in the 30s, so we have been remodeling too. We keep saying that we are going to wait for to tear up the carpet until after we are done having kids, but looking at this makes me want to do it right now. Like, right now.

The little kids were with DH at his Mom's today so I had a few hours to myself. The rest of the bulk of the work I'll do at night while they sleep. I tend to be very ambitious. I ripped out the carpets in our old house on 2 floors by myself while out on maternity leave because I was bored LOL?

  • Awesome!  I love those floors!  Older homes always seem to have such personality.  I wish we lived in one.  I'm scared to think what is under our carpet!
