Two Under 2

Did you go straight to a twin bed and skip the toddler bed?

If so, how did that work out for you?  Where did you buy the twin bed?  Did you get all new furniture for the older child and give the nursery furniture to the younger child or did you find a bed that coordinated with the existing furniture?

I don't have to be thinking about this quite yet, but I like to obsess. Confused

Anyway, my older daughter will be just shy of two when we move her from the crib, so that she doesn't feel put-out when the baby comes.  I'm thinking of just getting her a whole new furniture set for her "big girl" room, but we don't have a ton of money to spend.  Ikea has cute, affordable kid's furniture, but I'm wondering how well will it grow with her?  Does anyone have any of their children's stuff?

  • We had a twin daybed in the nursery that I slept in when C was sick. C moved into that. The crib stayed put. No new anything. They share a room.

  • Madeleine will obviously be older than Caleb when baby #2 arrives, but FWIW C is still in his crib.  He is so not ready to move to a big boy bed yet.  When Asher moves into C's room, into a crib, C will very likely still be in his crib.  We got a convertible crib for him so I think we will buy a whole 'nother crib for A and just convert C's bed when he's ready for it.

I know that doesn't help.... but it's fun to see you on this board Wink

  • We moved DS to a twin bed at 10 months old. We just have his matress on the floor for now. We do have a captains bed for him, but with a new baby and moving, we haven't put it up yet. Hes been fine with what he has.

We passed the nursery furniture down with each kid, we haven't bought anything new since DS#1.

  • We actually converted our crib to a toddler bed for DD#1. We bought all new furniture for DD#2 (crib, dresser, etc.) when she was born. DD#2 is still in a crib now at age 2 (and I am NOT moving her out yet since she's fine in there).

When I got PG with DS, DD#1 got her "big girl" furniture (with twin bed), and we use the crib for DS now.

  • We got a hand me down crib and moved Ryan into his new room just this weekend. We got a full bedroom set- twin bed, dresser, nightstand and just have the crib in there as well until he's ready to move into the bed. It's been great b/c he often ends up in our bed and now we've been able to take him out of the crib and get into his bed with him so either DH or I actually get a good night's sleep.

We have the bed against the wall and a side rail. He loves sleeping in beds, gets out with no problem,  and I think he'd do much better in one than a crib but b/c he's not STTN, I'd be worried about him wandering so in the crib he remains.

  • We are not using a toddler bed.  Because I would have to buy another crib mattress for #2.  For the moment the crib mattress is on the floor, and once DS's room is completed we will transition him in there on a twin mattress on the floor.  My mom is giving me a twin sized bed and mattress, and DH made a dresser.  Maybe you could check out Craigslist?
  • We moved DD to a twin bed (mattress on the floor) at 16mo. She did fine.

The nursery furniture is all going to the new baby. We've bought her a new dress from Ikea, but so far we don't have a bed frame though we have moved her up to having the mattress on the box springs. She likes to be able to just flop into bed so I'm in no hurry to get a bed frame.

  • DS has spent two nights in his twin bed in his new bedroom.  We wanted to make sure we had plenty of transition time before the new baby arrives.  We didn't buy him any bedroom furniture, we put the mattress on top of the box spring on the floor.  The nursery is staying as-is.  We will get some simple shelves to store toys and books, but will wait a couple years on an actually bedroom furniture set.  That gives us time to find a good deal.
  • DD 1 went from a crib into a double bed and has done great--she was moved at 15 months!

Really?  And she didn't feel lost in that big, old bed?
  • WE movedmy older DD into her twin bed 3months before her sister was born.  WE skipped the whole toddler bed thing as I really feel like its a huge waste of money.  Anyway, we kept the nursery totally the same for #2 and my older DD got a whole new room.  We bought a good adult size dresser that she can use forever and just got a twin size mattress (no frame) that we had right on the floor with bed rails at first, we added the box spring after about 6 months.  We put a fun bean bag chair in the room along with some bins for her books and stuff animals.  We have some cute shelfs on her walls and that is about it.
