Breastfeeding

okay, tell me again the rules for bm...

for frozen that is.  going back to work in a few weeks and want to make sure my daycare provider has a printout of how to defrost bm & when to discard it, etc....  i know she doesn't need the info, but i feel better knowing & giving it to her.

thanks!

You're doing the right thing by giving it to her. Some people don't realize that you have to handle bm differently than formula, and lots of people don't know that microwaving it is a huge no-no.

  • In the hospital I was taught the 555 rule. That milk is good for: 5 hours at room temp, 5 days in the fridge, and 5 months in the freezer.

For defrosting the milk, just take it out of the freezer and defrost it in the fridge and use it within 24hours. Big Smile

we usually defrost by popping the bottle in a big cup of hot water. a pyrex measuring cup does the trick in about 10 min or so.
