Off the Nipple Shield?

Ever since Clementine was born we have always had to use the nipple shield. I kept attempting to latch her on naturally but usually she would cry until I put the shield back on. BUT yesterday and today we have done all of her feedings naturally with no shield! I'm just so exicted that I had to share. Thanks.

Re: Off the Nipple Shield?

  • Congrats! We used the shield for the first 3 weeks and then we did not need it any more...it is a good feeling.

I just attempted a couple times of day but usually she would just cry and cry until I put the thing back on but yesterday while my DH was going to go get the sheild for me I just attempted and she did it! So, I have no idea on why all the sudden she is doing it but I'm just really really happy she is. Maybe because she's a little bit bigger/older now? I don't know, I was  figuring it was going to take her awhile since even my midwife had to use a shield for 6 months before her son finally latched on naturally.

  • I hope this will be me someday, congrats!
  • Congrats! We have been using a shield also, and I can't wait until the day that we don't need it.....
  • Oh congratulations!!!! That is a HUGE achievement. I wish I can post a similar message one day. My LO screams bloody murder when I try to feed naturally. My breasts are engorged and my nipples are flat so I don't see much hope. I am working with a lactation consultant to see if things can work out for me and the LO.
