TTC after 35

Alcohol ? from a hotel computer!

Hello Bump friends

I wrote about this b4 but now I have a friend in the same situation & we're at a wedding reception! Me:1 week post O, She: due 2 ov in next few weeks. What is everyone's honest thoughts on having a glass of champagne & wine tonight at our good friend's wedding?   I mentioned before that I did everything "right" & had a miscarriage with the 1st preg & didn't conceive in following months etc... Would I be irresponsible 2 have wine tonight if we did conceive last week? Tell me the truth about what you have done diet & etoh wise. I know the Dr's answer, but what do other women really do.  Thnks!

Me: 42, DH: 43. We are so grateful to have a 2yr old daughter, conceived naturally after 3 miscarriages & no treatments (our Dr. gave us 1 more month to try on our own before advacing to IVF, & we conceived her naturally in January 2010)! Trying since April 2011 without sucess....MD said we were both "fine" & that if it wasn't happening, it was a chromosomal issue. Finally started Follistim 225mcg injections with an Ovidrel trigger November 2012. Bleeding 11 days post Ovidrel on November 25th. Starting the whole lab/Ultrasound/Follistim cycle again on November 27th...

Re: Alcohol ? from a hotel computer!

  • I would have a drink or two for sure!  I am 9dpo and am going out to hear BIL's band tonight.  I will be consuming a drink or two (or maybe more after getting my car towed today, but I digress).  Here is my reasoning:

    (1) I have been TTC since January. I don't know when this is finally going to happen, but it could take a lot longer. I am not going to live my life like I am pregnant until I know I am pregnant.

    (2) I don't think you share any blood supply until six weeks.

Now go have a drink and enjoy yourself.

  • We thank you so much for your answer, Holly!    I think we both know we want to have a drink but have become brainwashed by all the precautions they say need to be taken to have a healthy baby. Have fun tonight. We would have had fun without the alcohol, but now we're going to have extra fun. &I'm with you on the long wait to conceive & finding it difficult to wait & have a perfectly healthy lifestyle while waiting. It's hard, & not realistic. I think the earth's population would have died out long ago if the perfect lifestyle was necessary to procreate. Good luck to you!

  • unless you have already gotten a BFP, go ahead and celebrate!

Alcohol can not affect a baby until you are sharing blood which is after the placenta is formed.

  • The saying goes "drink until it's pink."  Unless your dr/re has told you otherwise...go for it.  you and the baby do not share blood until implantation takes place which is about at the time you'd test.  That's my $.02
