I just saw this on the babycenter.com board...
When asked what the worst thing people have done while pregnant, a woman actually had this response:
Posted 7/24/2009my bads:binge drinkin (before i found out)pot...smoked grass at hash bash 4 months in...and got absolutely baked 3 weeks before that...and drank the pot tea on 4:20 with a huge can of monster...bad >.<cigs...after i found out i smoked for a little while before i found out she was health, then quit once i knew she was alive and wellnight clubs (until i quit the cigs)and vicodin (day before i found out) now its just the occasional bottle of pop when im craving that flavor. ive been really good for the past 5 months though
Can you believe this?!?!
Re: Worst thing you've done while pregnant?
Cigs until she found out the baby was healthy? Quoi?! What part of that makes sense?
Most of the rest doesn't really phase me, though why keep going back to smoking pot during pregnancy? I'm not opposed to people smoking it in general so I'd understand if she did before she got the BFP, but smoking anything during pregnancy is f-ing up your kid's oxygen supply, whether you believe in any of the other effects or not.
Wow.
Count me in on the vicodin, though. My doc actually prescribed a very low dose hydrocodone/acet. oral in 2nd tri when I was having really bad headaches that were not caused by blood pressure.
I think I've taken about 4 of them. And I think I asked my doc 3 different times if he was sure they were safe (he said the dose was too small and that by the time it reached the placenta it would pretty much be gone). I'm assuming he's right, b/c even when I was drowsy, baby would be just as active as normal.
Other than that, I have had Jersey Mike's about once a week. I thought it was totally fine b/c I've never gotten sick, and then someone had to post last week about how babies can have listeria and you don't know until birth. Yikes...
The rest of that list, though, geez. So, she wouldn't have quit smoking if the baby had some kind of genetic problem? I'm scared for that kid. I'm pretty sure after LO is born, she will be smoking (and smoking up) in the house. Poor baby...I went drinking the night before I found out I was PG.
I had taken a test a week earlier and it was neg. so I thought I was in the clear & I was coming down with the flu, so the night before I took the second test I had 2 shots of Jameson and 2 beers. I only took the test the next morning because I didn't get my period. and Ta-Da! with child. I was about 4-6 weeks at that point.
But this broad there.. smoking drugs when you KNEW you were preg? Great. You're a great person.
wow. She has to be making that up. Or she's just trash. Poor baby.
Okay, I'm with PPs...I know I'm no saint, but that seems a bit like MUD to me...I found out on Jan 2nd (had taken two tests prior with neg results) so I had a mixed drink on New years eve (it was a boring night lol) but I had been on perc for my back (prescribed to go along with the surgical procedures I was getting) and whatnot before I got my BFP but she seems like she's pointing out any and everything to get some kind of pity?
I dunno...
I took a test on a Wed. my period was already two days late. It was negative. That Saturday night we had friends over to our new house for a UFC fight. I had a few martinis. The next morning I woke up...and drove myself to the store at 6am to get a HPT. It came back positive!! I then smoked a cig. Haven't smoked or drank since then though!
That is crazy, but I believe it.
I had a coworker/friend that was binge drinking, taking pills of all sorts, smoking weed. She even thought she might be pregnant so she took the morning after pill. Well the morning after pill didn't work and she was in fact pregnant. She continued on with percasets and vicoden, going to clubs, and had a healthy baby boy a month early.
I don't know what the hell she was thinking and just can't imagine putting your baby at risk like this.
Yeah, I've known enough people like this to definitely believe it.
I'm wondering how sheltered everyone is to think this is MUD...
Ramen noodles (the trans fat) are probably the worst thing.
Otherwise a cafe au lait here and there, but nothing near the recomended caffene limit.
I just wanted to say that this is awesome and I love your ticker. I have never smoked, but I have family and patients that really struggle. What an accomplishment - congrats!

I met a girl at a party who was about 6 months along chain smoking.
I asked her, in my best attempt at a sympathetic voice, "Are you having trouble quitting?"
She said, "Oh, no. I just heard that smoking makes your baby smaller. I don't want to have to push out 8 pounds!"
I almost died.
I know three women who smoked regularly throughout thier pregnancies. One girl was even in the hospital for preterm labor and would have her husband wheel her down to the courtyard for smokers. She eventually delivered 11 weeks early. Another of these women has a daughter who has severe Autism. I'm not saying that the cigs caused it, but it makes me wonder.
I guess the worst thing that I've done has been swig an entire 2-Liter Dr. Pepper by myself over the course of about 12 hours. A couple of months ago, DH and I were at a weekend party with friends and they all got to drink, but I didn't. I consoled myself with a bottle of DP.
I celebrated the the holidays and New Year's with copious amounts of alcohol (before I found out I was pregnant) and was taking my ADD meds as well. As soon as I found out I quit all that of course... but being off my adderall has been TOUGH. Since the BFP the worst I've done is the occasional glass of wine and probably too many Tylenol PM's.
Just curious, any other girls out there with ADD? How are you coping at work etc. w/o the medicinal balance?
Someone I used to work with smoked one week and quit drinking, then the next would drink and not smoke. She said she couldn't give up both. Interesting thought process in her mind!!
And to think I worried about the few drinks I had before finding out DH and I were expecting... Now it's just the occassional turkey sandwich.
