Let's talk about Sposies

I've been trying out the cheaper brands of Diapers lately and sometimes DS is wetting through during the night. He's in them 4-5 hours tops. This never happened when we used Pampers. Right now he's about 19lbs and in a size 3. Do you think I should try a size 4 in store brands? I know they tend to run smaller? I HATE having a wet baby and crib at 4am. Sad I may just go back to Pampers. Its worth spending the extra $$ if he stays dry.

I also notice the smell of urine more in the Luvs than any other brand. Did anyone else notice this?

  • I don't know the answer to your sizing question, but when we uses disposables, we used store brand during the day with no problem and the more expensive brands at night that would hold the urine better (pampers swaddlers or huggies overnites when she was bigger).

I didn't notice the smell of pee more in Luvs. ?We loved Luvs and those are what we used during the day with no issues.?

  • if i were you, i'd probably use store brand during the day and pampers at night if they work! or you could use those diaper doublers.

henry used to be a really heavy wetter, but has since backed off (YAY!)

i used sposies last week when i was in FL and it made me glad i use cloth. i swear, every poop went everywhere! (however, the week before in MN, i also used sposies and had NO leaks. weird.)

and side-note, your kid weighs more than mine! (henry's 18.5 lbs)

  • We have used a lot of store brand diapers -- we had a diaper shower and got tons of store brands along with name brand -- and I still swear by Pampers.  My second choice was Huggies SUPREME (regular huggies stink imo) but it seems like everything except pampers, huggies supreme - you could always smell urine, even if he just dribbled, none held the poo in as well....so we gave up on store brand.  The only time I will buy anything but Pampers is if I have a coupon and HT is doing the Super Doubles and the Huggies are on sale.....but even still those go to daycare.
  • I really havent had much luck with any store brand. I continue to use Huggies.

I would also suggest using a waterproof pad on top of the sheets for this if it keeps happening. I used one with AT till at least 6m.

  • The ultimate crib sheeet works great because if it does get wet in the middle of the night you just take that off and then you still have your crib sheet under it.  I like the UCS because it attaches to the crib so it wont move or bunch up if they move around.
  • Ditto everyone else. We do fine with Luvs or storebrand, or whatever I can get for cheap w/coupons (often Huggies) during the day and at daycare, and use Pampers at night. We might switch to the Huggies overnights soon, but she's only in a size 3 (and just barely--she can still fit in a lot of 2's), and I'm pretty sure you can only get size 3's at BRU.

  • We use Target brand during the day and Huggies or Pampers (which ever I can get cheaper) at night.
  • We use Parent's Choice during the day and Pampers Cruisers at night.  DD is just over 26 pounds and we use size 4.  Sometimes the Parent's Choice even leak during the day so after I use this box up we're going back to Cruisers or Huggies Natural Fit for day use too.  I also bought some Pampers Overnights and Huggies Overnights in size 5, but thought they were just a tad big so will wait a little while longer before using those.

  • Since he's in a Size 3, why don't you try the Huggie's Overnights? When we use sposies we've had great luck with those! I've also found that Huggie's Lil Movers have been GREAT for J. He would literally crawl right out of the Pampers, resulting in all kinds of leaks. Good luck!
  • We are in a size 3 Costco and they are a little big. I have never had an issue of her soaking through except when DH doesn't do them tight enough (he wants her to be "comfortable"), I love them, they are super absorbent and affordable. I think I get 215 for $39.

  • We use Parent's Choice during the day, Pampers at night. We moved up to a size 4 when she was about 20 lbs, so you could try that.
