I like family names and my DH's grandmother's maiden name is Pearson. I think we would call him Pierce for short. My only concern is that it is spelled like the fruit but is pronounced like a pier...Thoughts?
I think most people pronounce that name properly. I definitely wouldn't change the spelling because then you'd lose the entire idea of using a family name.

I would never have thought anyone would have pronounced it like the fruit but I guess that's because I've heard the name many times before. It makes me think of the Canadian prime minister Lester B Pearson or the Toronto Pearson airport...
I've never heard that name pronounced like the fruit either. I think it's a great name for a boy and love that you can call him Pierce for short. I don't think you should change the spelling as it is a family name.
I also wouldn't expect people to pronounce it like the fruit, but maybe it's just a more common surname here than in other areas. I wouldn't change the spelling.
I agree with others that most people would pronounce it correctly, because it's a relatively common last name. I like it, and I think Pierce is a cute nn!
Cautiously expecting our second little petri dish baby - stick, Baby, stick!
Re: Thoughts on Pearson

Anyway, I say spell it Pearson.
