WTF is wrong with 16 and pregnant?

Hasn't anyone on/producing/hosting this show thought that more than likely there are many, many teen girls out there watching it and thinking, "Wow, if I hurry and stop using protection, I could apply to be on next season and be famous!"

Somehow I think this show has completely missed the point with the exception of the adoption episode. These girls are so dolled up, their babies are decked out, the episodes of them all end with everyone being ok and finally on board with things - and now they get to appear on shows and have everyone know who they are! It sounds like a dream life for someone 16 who hasn't had any type of life yet.

MTV needs a reality check on this.

I can't take it.

  • I watched the reunion show and didn't get that message at all.  I think there were probably only 2 of the girls who weren't crying and Dr. Drew made it a point to press all the girls about unprotected sex and all that they have had to give up.  I did not think that they were glamorizing teen pregnancy at all.

  • I just got done watching it and didnt get the same impression.  I was annoyed by Farrah and her mother.  Her mother couldnt even fess up to the fact that she slapped her daughter.  She defended it which I thought was totally wrong.  And the whole breastfeeding topic makes me want to think twice about it but I think Dr. Drew should have at least said the benefits of BF and said if a mother can do it for 2 weeks that's better than not doing it all - just some of my random thoughts about the show.
  • I didn't get that overall impression from it either.  The only part that bothered me was that Dr. Drew didn't press upon them and the audience that they should be using more than just condoms as bc.  Every last one of those girls should have a non-barrier primary form of bc and so should every other sexually active teenage.  As someone who has a child who was the result of a broken condom I can relate that even when you do use them and use them right, you can get PG quite easily using only condoms.
  • I watched quite a few of the episodes as well as the reunion and didn't get that impression at all.  I actually think they did a decent job of NOT glamorizing teen pregnancy.
  • I agree with the PP....I think that show does a good job telling teens how a baby will totally mess up their life plans and how hard it is.

  • After I watched the reunion I did think to myself "hmm I wonder how many teens are going to get pregnant just to be on TV" but I think all the teens did a great job of telling how much having a child that young screwed up their lives.  And I agree with the other ladies that have posted about the BFing.  They should have said it has many good benefits for the baby.
  • I didn't get the impression that they would want to be on the show but I did think that some of the stories on there kind of glorified pregnancy.  I feel like the show could be more successful if they would show more of what us women go thru during pregnancy. I only saw one girl throw up and that was it! I want to see sleepless nights, throwing up, gas pains, the poops, the constipation, the dizziness to the point you feel likg you are going to fall over.  Nevermind how difficult it could be to put a crib together.  Some episodes were okay but I think there could be more.

I thought the reunion special, and especially Dr. Drew, did a great job of showing how difficult it is to have a child at such a young age. All of the girls said how much they gave up and how much they've lost out on. I don't think a teenage girl would hear what they are saying and think "Ima be famous!" if they really listen to what the girls have to say. If anything, hearing it from these girls would have more of an impact.
