2nd Trimester

Which Maclaren?

Hello! Wondering if anyone has opinions about which Maclaren to get as a secondary stroller. We're getting an Uppababy (I think) but want a lighter weight option for a few months in, to use in the subway and for travel.

My big question is how important the recline will be. The Volo is obviously terrific since it's only 8 pounds, but it doesn't recline at all. Is it worth adding a few pounds to get the recline of the Triumph? The cost goes up too, of course.

Thanks!

Re: Which Maclaren?

  • I know this doesn't answer your question, but I've been trying to figure out the second stroller issue too.  A woman at Giggle (a mom, not an employee) recommended a Peg Perego that is apparently similar to the Maclaren, but reclines and you can hook in an infant car seat to it.  It was a little more expensive too, but it might be able to eliminate the need for a snap and go at first, if you expected to use one of those for a few months.  Might be worth checking out.

  • The Volo can't be used until about 6m because it does not have a recline feature.

The Triumph's recline feature isn't as good or as easy to use as the Quest. The Triumph's seat area is also a little smaller than the Quest.

I would suggest holding off on a Maclaren until you know how your child is. I have a Quest and love, love, love it. We've had it since our almost three year old was 3m. It was my only stroller until I bought a Phil & Teds Vibe when he turned two. We travel quite a bit and it has held up beautifully to being gate checked over and over. It will be perfect for #2 as well. That said, Jack is not a stroller napper. I have only used the recline feature once and that was so I could sit him down to change his clothes in the middle of a store once.

I think since you are in the city, you might look around and see what is popular. I remember seeing Quests all over NYC when I was there last year. I gave a friend who works in Manhattan and lives in Queens a Quest and she absolutely loves hers. She doesn't travel the subway too much though. So again I would look around to see what everyone in the subway is pushing.

  • Another couple things.

I have talked to friends and strangers about their Volo. Some love it and some wish they had something a littler better. It is a very basic stroller. You might want something a little more substantial for the different seasons. But then I added a Bundle Me Urban Toddler sack to my Mac and for my son in the winter and it works great. My friend I mentioned above bought the same thing for her son.

I took a friend to buy a BOB last month and when showing her the Maclaren, the salesman suggested the Peg Perego as well. It seemed a bit more stroller than even the Quest. Maybe more in line with the Techno. Just a thought since it's interesting that two different sales people in two different parts of the country were pushing the PP over the Mac. My salesman didn't have kids though.

  • We registered for the Triumph.  I wanted a little more "substance" to the stroller than the Volo seemed to have, but couldn't bring myself to spending the extra $$ for the Quest on a second stroller.
  • We're only getting a Triumph. The back is adjustable so it can be used from three months and is is still very light. I am planning to sling it till then.
