I'm going to wait until about 20 weeks or so to register. We aren't finding out the sex, BUT they will come out with so many new things within the next few months, so I want to wait it out. When you feel ready, might as well start looking.
Married my BEST FRIEND on December 1, 2007.
Started TTC in March 2008.
Found out we were expecting our first child in October 2008 - but had a m/c in December 2008 - resulting in a d&e.
Met with a RE in May 2009 and set a plan - but conceived unexpectedly on our own!
Our precious little Sophia was born on February 9, 2010!
I actually already started an online registry with BRU. As I'm finding things that I like, I'm adding them so I don't forget what they were! I figure I can always delete/edit later.
I think we waited until a few weeks after we'd checked out the baby's sex. I'd highly recommend the book Baby Bargains. I had a serious meltdown last time over having too many choices and not knowing what the heck was best or horrible etc. It has ratings and info - it's awesome!
20 weeks. We are still debating finding out gender (DH in favor, I am not) but I looked up a bunch of baby registry checklists to get an idea. I am doing mine on Amazon.
I have a couple 'private' wish lists that I started before we were TTC so I could find things I liked. Now I look once a week or so. My game plan sounds like most, after we find out the sex.

I've already started my registry. But I did it because I have relatives all over the country who are already shopping. I will add the gender specific items once we find out what we're having.
I do have to say that after reading the tips about registering on here, I will not add clothes or blankets to the registry. And I thought back to what I actually used with my DS and made sure to put those items on my registry.
I want to start one NOW - but I have been resisting. We haven't decided if we are going to find out the gender before delivery (he is in favor, I'm not) - we'll probably start the registry around 20 weeks.
I already have a written list of things I've seen so far that I like
We won't register until after the big u/s, but we've already started checking out things to buy and register for. I just bookmark things online. Since we're not telling anyone until next week after the first u/s, it's keeping my mind busy for the time-being. Plus, I'm a major planner
Hehehe- I actually already started a registry on Amazon and at Target.com because I already have relatives asking what they can get for us. I haven't told anyone but DH about the registries yet, though. Since we're gonna wait to find out the gender, that's not going to be an issue.
I like amazon because it has an attachment that allows you to add stuff from any website and have it all on one list.

I'm all about Bargains! Thanks for the recomendation
I'm so up in the air about finding out the sex of the baby. It's a nice idea to have that big Surprise at the end of all this but the planner in me REALLY wants the babies room to be gender specific and I hate the idea of registering for all yellow, green & cream! lol
I don't need a whole lot, because I saved just about everything from DS. I also don't see myself having a second shower.
I did start a registry so that as I come across things I do need I can add them and have a list that I can access from anywhere. (I think it only has crib sheets and breathable bumper pads right now.)
I plan to start mine before I have to go back to teaching in the fall. That way I have time to leisurely check things out and add or change things if I want.

I will probably start mine right after first tri ends, then add gender based stuff later. I told my mom (who is already talked about throwing me a shower) with the twins, if I could that I would like a shower earlier rather than later, just in case.

Hope all these answers help.
