TTC after 35

16 more days....

Of my parents visit. Don't get me wrong: I adore them.

But we are going through wine around here like there's a shortage, and they go into spasms if they don't golf at least every 48 hours. LOL.

They live on the other side of the country so we don't see them much. What about you? Do you live near/see your parents alot?

Re: 16 more days....

  • Hey Cat!

I know exactly what you mean....love them, but can't take them for a long period of time!

Our parents are in Buffalo, so also across the country.  We don't get home as much as we like, but going home is also exhausting since we have to cram seeing so many people in a short time.  Only my FIL has been out here in the last 1 1/2 yrs...guess no one wants to get out of snowy, humid Buffalo fro gorgoeus everyday sunshine...hhmmm...LOL!

BTW: when is your Vegas trip???

We see our parents often. My father passed away a few years ago so I like to see my mom about once a week-she lives an hour away. DH's parents live 5 minutes away, as his umbilical cord doesn't stretch too far! I have to say, we are very lucky in the in-law department.

Who's doing the wine drinking, you or your parents?

I wish we were closer to both sets of parents, I love my inlaws.

lol..no one is drinking very much individually (least anyone think we are winos over here!) but it has been a constant stream of visitors (my friends LOVE my parents) dinners, bbqs, etc etc.

  • Someone would die if I had to live with my mother for 16+ days! My parents are about 10 minutes away, which is good when we need someone to play Santa or to take the dog out. DH's parents are about 50 minutes away at their lake house during the summer and at Christmas. In the winter, they go to Florida for about 4 months. I almost would rather have DH's parents live closer than my parents. My mom and I don't always get along!

  • Hate to say it but I see my mom everyday. Mom, My Sister and I own a business...so I see them everyday. Sometimes I think that takes away from the Mother Daughter relationship but We love our work. ...It also helps with non covered fertility meds as it is a Pharmacy..Meds at cost= good deal!!!
"Onward"--CathyMD Waiting since 07/5/2011 for our forever child! Yep we are adopting!
  • Both of our parents live about 30 min. away, except when the ILs go to their home in Greece during the summer.  With my parents it varies how often we see them, anywhere from once a week, once every couple weeks and then we've also gone a whole month without seeing them.  On the other hand the ILs INSIST on seeing us at least once a week--oh, wait a moment it isn't about seeing us it's about seeing DS--THEIR grandchild.  They have a major sense of entitlement about it and I really can't stand it.

    LOL!!!!

DH's mom lives 5 miles away...

My parents are no longer living... but I can imagine my mother and I driving each other crazy if she was with me for any kind of extended stay! lol.

  • My parents live about 3 miles away and I see them almost every day. ?They are older. ?(mom 74, dad will be 80 this year) ?They had me late in life. ?We are very close and living so close came in handy back in April when my dad called me at 6am to tell me my mom was having chest pains! ?My husband and I flew over there while calling 911. ?She went to the ER and had a little hospital stay, but all was well. ?It would kill me to think I could not be there for them for things like that.

My brother on the other hand lives in Hawaii with his wife. ? I silently curse him out sometimes.

  • My parents live a couple of hours away.  We see them about once a month or so, depending on schedules.

Can't quite imagine 16+ days of them as houseguests too.  Kudos to you!

  • My parents are about 50 minutes away and we don't see them nearly as much as we'd like.  Hopefully when we have a little one, they'll come around more often.

My MIL is recently widowed and lives about 9 hours away.  Currenty were are trying to convince her to move closer to us.

  • My parents live about 10 hours away in Kansas.  My IL's live about 1 1/2 hours North of us.

I wish we lived closer to my family-my sister is 6 1/2 hours away and the past few years my mom, sister and I have become really close.  I wish the distance wasn't so much so that if there was something on the weekend going on it would be an easy trip to get together for the day or something...  ::sigh::

I see my family 3-4 times a year and DH's about 6-8 times a year.

Having said all of that...I can only handle 5 days with my family and then it's time to go our separate ways.  I think the hard part is when you're trying to fit months into days, your visit is concentrated and when it's over it's over.
