I had my appt at 11:30am so I made sure to get there by 11:25am. Well I just got home and my Dr is only 10 mins from my house. I sat in the waiting room for 1.5 hours and the exam room for 45 minutes and all for a 2 minute appt.
Welcome to my world. I have been in the same boat, waiting 2 hours total and then have a nurse come in and say, your doctor is delivering a baby right now so we need to reschedule... this has happened twice to me. GL!
That infuriates me when that kind of stuff happens. What's the point in making an appointment if you're just going to see me when it's convenient? I hope you didn't have any afternoon plans!
That's exactly how it was at my last appointment. I am only 8 minutes from the dr.'s. I was about to fall asleep in the exam room while I waited. I have an appointment tomorrow and hope it is not a repeat performance.
If it makes you feel better, I had to wait over an hour for my u/s...with a full bladder. I think of it this way when I have to wait for appts - the OB may be telling someone really bad news or dealing with a crisis & that's why the appt is late. Can you make your appts for the first of the day?? I usually try to get early morning so there's less chance of delay or my OB being at a delivery.

thats why i request early morning ones so i don't have to deal with that crap. seems that if i took an afternoon one, i am there for that long. its very annoying.

I thought about that, but then he said "this is what I get for being on vacation last week." I would've gladly made my appt for a few days from now if they would've told me they overbooked him.
yeah, that's how it's been for me pretty much every appointment. it's really, really annoying. we're starting to try for morning appointments so that there's less of a chance of them running late.
Did you ask why? Sometimes there is a good reason (sometimes not). Usually when I have to wait a long time, I am offered some kind of explanation, but usually I don't have to wait much.
On the other hand, DH is a dr. in a practice that is often running behind (though not by 2 hours!) because of the sheer volume of patients and everyone (including doctors and nurses) are frustrated by it, but because there is no other pediatric practice in town, they feel like they have to see everyone because they don't have anywhere else to go.
Also, if you are with a smaller practice, you're more likely to have to deal with emergencies and having to reschedule.
Sorry you had that happen, though. It sure doesn't make things any more fun!
*****************************
Our beautiful daughter was born in October 2009. Turns out she was quite the miracle. After two years of TTC, diagnosed with DOR. A couple of failed treatment cycles later, we decided to let go of our hope for more biological children and explore adoption.
That's why I always schedule the first appointment of the shift, either in the morning or after lunch. We've only had one appointment so far where we waited more than 15-20 min.
This has happened to me a handful of times too -- but it's always because he's out delivering...so I figure he better do the same thing for me when I have my baby!
Wow that really sucks. I'm sorry. My MW takes me immediately which is awesome. Once they referred me to an OB for my 20 week u/s, and I waited at least an hour for that. Made me happy that I wasn't going to the OB for my regular appts...
I would hate to have to wait like that. I am lucky in the work in the same building as my OB so if he is running behind or is out delivering they call or get me in with the other Dr. They know I don't care if I have to see someone else. It's only happened once so far. I hope it's better at your next appt.
I would be irritated too. My old OB was like this. I was constantly spending hours waiting. One time they even forgot about me and started turning all the lights off and leaving (I was one of the last appointments of the day). UGH!! My newer one is much better, maybe because there are quite a few doctors there to cover. What a waste of an afternoon for you.
I can back the first thing in the morning thing! I have only had one afternoon appt, and that was the one that I had to wait for.
I can understand how it happens, though. They're also juggling hospital shifts, and things come up. I may need the same urgent attention when it's my turn, so I try to be patient although I would be annoyed if my appts were always late.

An hour with a full bladder would be horrible!!
