QOTD: What are your thoughts on diapers?  Cloth or disposables or undecided?

Me:  We use cloth with DS and will use cloth with this new one.  I will never get preachy about it though, it is not for everyone.  For us, it was a great choice because we have our own washer/dryer, it has saved us a ton in diaper costs and DS breaks out everytime we put him in sposies.  Of course there is the environmental benefits too, but that isn't always the case.  I guess it might depend on where you live.Big Smile

  • Cloth, at least at home.  If we have to go to daycare, we may not be able to find one willing to accomodate us with cloth.  Won't deter us at all at home though.

  • Definitely cloth. But I won't impose that on others who might be taking care of our LO once in a while.

  • i have been thinking about both...we're thinking of using cloth diapers but i really need to look into it before a firm decision is made.

  • This weekend will be busy.  I'm scrapbooking with friends all day on Saturday and DH and I are going to the Yankee game on Sunday.

QOTD: I think we're going with disposables, at least at first.  I've thought a lot about CD'ing but, our laundry room is outside of our house, in the back of our garage. Our last few winters have been pretty harsh and I don't think I'm going to be up for doing that much more laundry in the winter.  Maybe we'll re-assess in the spring.

  • I will be doing both... cloth at home and disposable when we go out!
  • This weekend is our 1 year wedding anniversary so we are going away to spend the weekend together!

As far as diapers go, we will do disposable. If I were a SAHM I would try cloth but living in an apartment where I share washers and dryers I wouldn't want to do that to my neighbors, nor would I have the time!

  • We'll be using disposable.  Although I admire those who can and do use cloth!
  • I can't wait for us to have a weekend with no plans, which isn't until late August I think Smile This weekend is jam packed, wedding shower, friends BBQ, and going to the Brickyard 400 in Indy.

We will be going back and forth, using cloth at home and disposable on the go. But who knows what will happen once the LO is here!

  • While cloth diapers are certainly environmentally friendly and very cost effective I personally have no intention of using them. The city where we live accepts disposable diapers in our green bins for composting. So that's what we'll be doing.  My MIL on the other hand has told me that she will be using cloth diapers for our LO.  She can wash the dirty diapers all she wants.  I'm just not intersted.
  • Hi all!

This weekend we are doing a Birthday Beach BBQ/Bonfire for my twin nephews who are turning 20!! YIKES!! I remember when THEY were in diapers......which leads me to the diaper question.  I haven't looked into the whole cloth diaper thing because honestly I am a super germaphobe!  All my sisters used disposables, it's what I grew up with while helping to raise all my nephews and nieces. I shall continue the trend of using disposables. maybe at some point I'll consider cloth....who knows!

  • Ideally, cloth at home and disposable (green) when we're not. But I'm still researching...
  • I'm not sure what we'll do. I never really considered cloth, but reading some of your posts has made me think about it.  Maybe we could do it at home, but I definitely wouldn't want to have babysitters or anyone else have to do it. With DH out of a job (hopefully he'll have one by the time LO arrives), we need something more economical. Hmm.  DH will probably hate the idea, but I plan on running it past him.

  • I'm not sure what the weekend plans are. Maybe I can talk DH into doing the IKEA trip we need another book shelf and I want to look at their baby stuff.

QOTD: Definately using cloth. I am trying very hard to be good to the environment and this is an easy way to do it.  The only issue will be (If I ever get a job!) daycare and if we can find one who will accept this.

  • Disposable without a doubt.  Even though I'm a SAHM I'm an always opt for convenience kind of girl.
  • This weekend should be fun. Tomorrow is my mother's 50th birthday and we (my siblings and I) are throwing her a big party, like we did for Dad last year on his 50th. It's a surprise party. She knows she'll have a party but knows none of the details about when and where. Saturday morning, we have a wedding to go to.

    QOTD: We're planning on disposables.

  • QOTD: We are planning on using cloth.  I wanted to with DD, but my mom (who watches DD while I work) was not very on board with it.  I am staying home when this baby is born, so that's what we're going to do.  I have always regretted not doing it with DD, so I am very excited about it.
  • Wow!  I am shocked that so many are considering or decided on cloth.  I don't know anyone IRL that uses them so I guess I assumed most people feel the same as I do.  But, I commend those that are willing to deal with the hassle!

As for weekend plans... we are moving to another state this weekend!  Well technically Monday but since DH works Tues-Sat as his regular schedule Monday is our weekend.  On Sunday we have a baptism to attend for our niece.  An exciting weekend!

  • Disposable- rinsing out poopy diapers just doesn't sound good to me- I am all for the convience factor of the disposable ones.  I understand the enviromental factor of using cloth but doing that much more laundry sounds just as unfriendly.  I have considered cloth but it just doesn't sound like me.

  • Hi everyone! This weekend I have my brother and his girlfriend coming to stay the night on Friday and then on Saturday we have my mom's 60th surprise birthday party.  I bought a cute dress at Motherhood Maternity to wear to the party!  I'm not showing all that much, but it was too cute to pass up!

QOTD: I haven't thought about cloth at all yet.  I imagine that I'll just go with disposables because they're easier.  But who knows, I like the idea of saving money!

  • I researched cloth diapers and they aren't much more environmentally friendly than disposable due to the amount of water that is used in cleaning them.  I was going to go that route, but why bother if it isn't any better.  Disposables for me.

  • QOTD: I was late to start cloth with DD, but am so glad I switched.  Environmental and $ savings were secondary reasons for us... we switched with her because there was so much poop in my laundry anyway... she had monstrous blowouts time after time after time, until we switched.

This LO, we won't even waste the $ on sposies, (s)he'll be in cloth from the start.  I have started my nb stash... I cannot believe how cute and little nb cloth diapers are!

  • I'm actually painting the nursery this weekend. :)  Since we are doing gender neutral, I figure it's best to get it painted now than to wait until I have a big belly to move around!

QOTD:  We'll be using cloth diapers.  I like that they are chemical free and that they are much more inexpensive that disposables.  Plus, they're just so stinkin' cute!

  • Not much planned for the weekend.  We may go to babiesrus and walmart just to get some ideas and then look them up in baby bargains.

As of now, we will be using disposable.  If I was a SAHM it may be different but I won't be.

  • We will be using disposable diapers like we do with DS.
  • I wanted to try cloth but dh is really old...haha just kidding but he is set in his ways and wants disposable so I made a compromise with him and we will use disposables if he lets me get the Medela Pump I want. Stick out tongue
  • QOTD: What are your thoughts on diapers?  Cloth or disposables or undecided?

Cloth!  My mom is a HUGE believer in cloth, and I told her I was going to leave the decision up to DH as he will be the primary stay at home dad and I don't want to force my idealogy on him when it means more work for him.  To my surprise, he was 100% for it.

  • We did cloth with DS and will do cloth with this one.  It's a great way to turn diapering into fun.  Although I don't think we have saved much money b/c I got a little carried away.  Hopefully I'll keep it under control this time since we already have so many cute ones that we'll see a cost savings with #2.  =D
  • I know I'll use disposable, but I'm undecided about cloth diapers as well. Cleaning the poop out of them is where I'm hung up. But I need to do a bit more research.
  • I'm stuck working all weekend.  I'm a nurse at a Children's Hospital and only have to work 3 days a week (but 12 hour night shifts!).  So I'll be busy changing diapers, feeding, burping, and giving tylenol over the weekend.  Lots of practice!

I am definitely going with disposables.  Lots of respect to those of you who will use cloth but I won't be going that route.

  • qotd:  we used disposables and will the next time too-just easier for us and my weak stomach.   it is hard enough to change the training potty and big girl panties some days much less cloth diapers.

had a dr. appointment this afternoon-heartbeat is strong at 150 and i have gained a whole pound so far!   next appointment is august. 21 for the ultrasound.

  • QOTD: I already do enough laundry. Disposable diapers for me! :)

WOW, i was shocked at the number of cloth responses...then further down came the disposable responses.

Anyway, we will be using dispoable. I honestly haven't even considered cloth. I would like to be environmentally friendly, just dont know much about cloth and the idea kinda just grosses me out.

Maybe some of you girls will change my mind. Wink After all, there is time!

  • We're heading off to a family reunion camping trip this weekend about an hour away! We're tenting it for the 1st time with our almot 23 mo DS! So hope that goes well! At least i'll have an air mattress!

We're going disposibles, we are and haven been with our DS, and I'm afraid that we will be having 2 in diapers for just a little bit.. unless potty training is AWESOME!

  • Hey!

I spaced on bringing lunch so all I've had today is a (huge) piece of coffee cake and some Ensure, so I'm not feeling great. Oops.

QOTD: We're leaning toward cloth, mostly for environmental reasons. And they're so much cuter!

  • Not sure which ones we will be using.  We may do cloth at home, and then disposables for daycare, and when we go out.
  • So happy to be going home a week early but ..notlooking forward to the flight home.

    QOTD: Not sure yet.

  • We leave for 2 weeks of sweet sweet PEI vacation on Saturday.  Cow's ice cream here I come!

We are not decided yet on cloth or sposies.  We'd both prefer cloth, but we still rent and may not be able to afford a place with its own washer/dryer with me not working for a year.  Hopefully cloth will prevail!

  • I surprised by the number of you considering or using cloth.  We are disposables all the way.
