Epi Question

For those of you that have already delivered or maybe this is not your first pregnancy.  If you got an epidural during labor, after everything was completed (baby out, placenta delivered, stitched up, etc...) how long before you were able to get up out of bed and walk around/shower, etc.?

Not that it really matters, I was just curious.

Re: Epi Question

  • I was wondering this as well

  • I was out of bed to use the bathroom (with the nurse's help - I was def. still wobbly) 2 hours after delivery.  I got up and showered maybe 5 hours later.
  • I delivered later at night, so I slept for a few hours and then when I woke up I was good to go.  Sorry, not much help.
  • I see you are still waiting too...GL and I think it was about an hour for me before I got full feeling back....not sure exactly!
  • I got up the next day (about 10hrs later). I'm not sure if I could get up earlier, but I definately did not have any desire to
  • With both of my girls (2 different hospitals) the nurse had me get up about an hour later to go pee.  I was a little wobbly still, but they said they needed to make sure I was peeing and check to see if there was any large clots.  Eww... I know gross, but true.
  • I got up pretty shortly afterwards (maybe 15 min)... but my epi was starting to wear off right after pushing (I could feel pressure, but no pain). So by the time I was stitched up, etc., I was able to walk enough (with help) to the bathroom at least. I don't think I showered until a couple hours afterwards.

  • I think I was out of bed within a few hours. Didn't shower until the next morning though because it was in the evening and I was in a lot of pain.
  • I can't remember exactly...but she was born at 3:30 am and when I got up to pee it was already light out, so maybe 2.5 hours or so?  Pretty sure I could have gotten up before that, though, if I'd really wanted to.

  • I want to say like 1-2 hours later.  They wanted to get me from L&D to a post-partum room.  I got up and felt really dizzy/nauseous and the nurse was like "it's ok/normal" even though I was pretty sure I'd puke on her, and sure enough I was ok.  Bled a lot and peed and then made it to my post partum room.  After that I slept a lot!
  • Honestly I don't even remember--they took DD to the nursery to get cleaned up and checked and everything, and I got to rest a little bit.  It all just was so blurry and I was exhausted that it didn't seem like it was any time at all.
  • I was up within the hour after using the restroom and showering. I felt alittle unstable but not bad at all.
