The idea seemed to go over well when I hijacked Honeydew's post below. Understanding that people have busy lives, stuff going on, summer travels, etc. What about if we do it with a little flexibility? For example if Honeydew wanted to claim the 1st bookclub, she could recommend that people read The Girls Who Went Away, and set a date for discussion- a week or whatever dependant on length. After she holds her discussion someone else could recommend a new book.
This way those that are interested can be involved, and those that aren't don't have to be. And people could pick based on their interest in the book being read.
Thoughts? comments? suggestions?
Re: book club
Maybe we could have a monthly book club check in? That way we would all have about a month to get the name of the book we'll be discussing, have a month to read it, then check back in and talk about it. I like your idea that the person who recommends the book is the one to post the discussion thread on it.
So maybe we check back in around Aug 20 about The Girls Who Went Away and see what we all think. At that time, I can claim #2 spot if nobody else has anything and recommend The Baby Thief.
I like the idea of reading about topics related to adoption (although not necessarily strictly adoption books) since I am also part of other book clubs. If there is interest to do a more all inclusive book club, I would still love to participate!
I was thinking mostly adoption/ foster/ parenting related, only because in theory that's why we are all here. And if people aren't interested in the book of choice then they don't have to participate, thus saving anyone from feeling guilty about lack of time or even dreading reading the book.
I think monthly works out well that's plenty of time. Anyone still checking our yahoo group? I could post it on the calendar there as a reminder.
Oh I was thinking that they wouldn't ALL have to be related to adoption/parenting. Just thinking that maybe we might max out on adoption books for home studies? Just an idea, I will most likely read anything!
I'm in!!!!!
