I give her her bottle while rocking. Then I might snuggle for a minute or two when she is done and then I lay her in the crib. She's always awake when I lay her down. Drowsy but awake.
I still nurse, but most of our sleep problems were for naps and the middle-of-the-night wakings. She's always gone down fairly easy after nursing, so we figure if it's not broken don't fix it.
We moved her last bottle a little earlier in the night. We do the bottle downstairs instead of in her room.
We go upstairs, change the diaper and put on pjs. Then we brush her teeth, read a book and say our prayers. Then she gets a sloppy kiss goodnight and is put in her bed.
If DH is home from work, all three of us go up but only one reads the book and does prayers.

We nurse and rock and cuddle and kiss and hug and sing. The only difference between now and when I would nurse her to sleep is that I don't let her fall asleep. The first few nights I had to actively keep her up. Now it is as though she knows it is eating and cuddling time and she doesn't even try to all asleep until I put her in her crib.
Re: those that Ferber
We did Ferber at 5.5 months. He still gets a nighttime bottle, but he does NOT fall asleep to it.
Baby needs to go down drowsy, but awake.
thanks I just saw that some Feberized from rocking so wanted to make sure I shouldn't stop that (plus I really enjoy it)
