So I can get some motivation and strength to decline my internal again today! I'm going to have the same doc today that I had last week who was not enthusiastic about my choice. She seems like the type that would say, "Oh, you won't make it to your due date!" based on the exam which is really my main problem with internals- these doctors giving false hope!

But I HAVE been having a lot of cramping... so I am not sure if that will be her case for checking me today?

Anyway, I'm just trying to avoid the frustration I experienced with #1, feeling like a failure (silly I know) when I stayed at 1 cm for every freaking exam for 6 weeks.

I think you saw my post the other day about getting an internal at 39 weeks, and let me tell you it has been the longest week of my life, I know I am dilated and every twinge, every cramp, every abdominal pain I obsess on - is it labor? It is seriously driving me nuts. So what I am saying is don't get checked because it will make the next weeks drag! But really you decide, that is my 2 cents.

I have been 2 cm dialated and 75% thinned out for three weeks now...still not even a sign of a contraction. Boo. That being said, I'll still probably contine to get checked each week, but if I hadn't already started getting checked, I probably would decline it.

I was told at 35wks that the baby was very low, and I was about 60% effaced, fingertip dilated. Doc said I could go into labor tomorrow, or in 3 weeks.

Week 36 - 1cm dilated, 60% effaced

Week 37 - 2cm dilated, 75% effaced

I've been having a lot of cramping, contractions and back ache too.

I'm not having internals this time around. With #1 I was 80% effaced and 3cm from week 37 until I went into labor at 39 weeks 2 days (however, I was in labor for almost 2 full days).

omg you are only 36 weeks!! you were checke 3-4 weeks ago???

Just keep telling yourself that things can change over night and there is no need to mintor every step since its not an indication of when the next step will come anyways. GL!

Ive been 1 cm 50 % effaced for the last 3 weeks. Ive been having a ton of cramping and false hope. I keep trying to wrap my brain around him not coming till his due date but i defiantly have the false hope from the internals not making more progress.

The only thing I would add is that since this is your 2nd baby, you have a greater chance of progressing quicker than with your last. I was at 1cm for several weeks with my first but my 2nd, I made progress at every appointment. I went from 3 to 6 in a week so you never know. I personally would want to know, but I am a need to know person, regardless of what it is. Good luck!

I'm not getting my first internal till next week anyway - I figure at 37 weeks it might be useful to know where I'm at, but until then, it doesn't concern me. Doc agrees. Your docs seem a little trigger happy when it comes to internals - hold your ground!

No- sorry for the confusion! My first opportunity to be checked was last week at 35 weeks. What I wanted was someone to tell me not to get checked at 36 weeks because I everything could be the same in 3-4 weeks, even if I were dilated today.

I have been getting internals (along with fFNs until 33 weeks) since 24 weeks due to a short cervix.

At 33 weeks, I was dilated 1 cm.

At 34 weeks, I was dilated 1.5 - 2 cm and 70% effaced.

At 35 weeks, I was dilated 3 cm and 80% effaced.

At 36 weeks, I was dilated 4 cm and 100% effaced.

Yesterday at 37 weeks, I am dilated 4.5 cm.

I have been hearing my water could break at any time or I could go into labor since 33 weeks. Last week, I really got my hopes up because my dr said I wouldn't last another week or 2. I am now thinking I will still be here at 40 weeks. I am still going to get checked because it helps me feel a little better that I am at least progressing and the fact that I am already so dilated makes me hopeful for a quick labor whenever it finally happens.

My MW offered to do my first internal when I was 40w. I declined it because I just didn't want to know. Today I am going in for a stretch and sweep so I guess I will find out where I am at (40w2d). I don't want it to get my hopes up (or down) though.
