Do they still use sippies in your DC's class? They don't use sippies in Eli's new class and I just think that's insane! Since we have to bring in his liquids thickened, it's a non issue for us. But if we didn't there's no way I'd have him drinking from a cup already. Seriously, they would need to change his clothes 3 times a day!

John's class still uses the sippies but once he is in the 2yo room they drink from the milk cartons or a regular cup. We started usinng regular cups at home and John surprsingly caught on pretty quick and rarely makes too much of a mess.I wouldn't think at Eli's age he would have been ready though. Have you tried a straw yet?

LOL - yep, not that we are even close but I cant imagine. When Alex is done with the sippy he does this sweeping motion with his hand and knocks it to the floor - if it was in a cup! No thank you!!!!

I think I seem to remember it with most 2 year old rooms. ?Kylie doesn't use a lid anymore and does great. ?She still uses some sippies when she is not at the table, but when we are at the table she uses her big girl cup. ?She actually transitioned on her own. ?She asked us one night for no lid and has done great since then. ?I am pretty sure they introduced it in daycare and she just did what the other kids were doing.

Our DC does not use sippies. It is a Montessori school, and apparently it is a part of that philosophy. We're not at that point yet, but I'm extremely curious how that is going to work out! So you're telling me you're going to give a one year old a regular cup? Like I said...very curious. :-)

In Nate's current room and the next room (18-24 mos) they still use sippies. I bet in the 2+ room they use regular cups, but I'm not sure. I think by then Nate will be happy to use a cup without a lid. He is really independent when it comes to eating & he'd probably love a cup without a lid now if we'd let him have one. I'm not ready for that mess though!

He can drink from a straw, but it's best for him to drink his liquids from a sippy, with a valve. Basically whatever it takes to make the liquid really hard and slow to come out. But sometimes I'll let him have a sip of my drink from a straw and he can do it just fine. He has just gotten in the habit of shaking his sippies (because it's so thick I think), so I know he'll try to do that with a cup too! And he also likes throwing it on the floor when he's done. I'm sure it's something he would do well with at daycare and then make a total mess at home. This class at daycare is Toddler B, which is roughly 16-20 months, give or take. That just seemed really early to me. But it looks like the other kids do fine with it.

I think this is pretty common. I know most of my friends who have children in traditional DC are doing this. We on the other hand are waiting. That is one of those things I'm not ready to give up. We haven't even started practicing yet. Basically I think the idea is they only have their drinks when they are eating meals and snacks so its not like they are carrying around a cup so why not go ahead and teach them how to drink out of the cup.
