Success after IF

***** ALCHRIS **** re: your carseats..

I am stuck between marathon and boulevard right now - I drive an (old!!!) Honda Accord and am keeping it for at least another year, maybe 2 in this economy -- so can't have a gigantic carseat ALTHOUGH Jack's Safeseat fits no problem and that's a pretty darn big infant seat.

Since you have both - can you tell me pros/cons of marathon vs boulevard?  Thanks!!!!!

Re: ***** ALCHRIS **** re: your carseats..

  • Hey!  I'll try to help. :)  In the end I would have loved 2 Boulevards, but we took all of the seats that we were considering and tried them in both of our cars, and the Boulevard fit in DH's car but made it next to impossible for me to get DD in and out of mine without bonking her head (and this was in Jan. so she's already bigger than that, and she will obviously continue to grow over the preschool years).  The Evenflo was tight too.  The other seat we were considering was the True Fit but we couldn't test it.  So we got the Boulevard for DH's car (which is used less often but for longer trips), and the Marathon for me.  They go on sale 2-3 times a year so we waited to get them then -- we just got them in February when she was 15 months and we started using them in May at 18 months, just because if it works out we'd love for them not to expire until after potential LO #2 uses them, and DD is small. :)

The main difference between the two Britaxes is the side-impact protection.  By no means is it necessary but I feel better with it, especially since she's behind the passenger seat in both cars, not in the middle.  Structurally otherwise they're nearly identical.  The Decathlon is a little different and I almost got that over the Marathon for my car.

I'll say that I spent A LOT of time researching them and really stressed out about it and I'm glad that decision is over!  I asked everyone I could think to ask, looked in multiple stores, and searched multiple websites just to narrow it down to these 4, so I understand! :)

I'm normally a money saver and I certainly didn't want to waste any money, but we expect to use these for many years so the money was worth it to us given the importance.  There are plenty of well-regarded cheaper seats too, but we're pleased with our eventual decision!

    GOOD LUCK!!! :)

  • So size-wise for my "regular" car - Marathon a better, smaller fit?  Is boulevard as big and honkin' as I think it is (without having tested it in my car?)

I will probably buy from albeebaby - they seems to have some "reasonable" prices.  And - what about moving it from car to car - no good?

  • I woudn't move from car to car -- it'd be a lot of effort.  For the frequency with which we alternate cars it's definitely worth it to have a second.  If you think you'd use the second car really infrequently, then one is probably enough.  I know plenty of families who only ever use one car for transporting their little one(s).  But we really do use both, so we knew we wanted two convertible seats, especially given the fact that we'd love to use them for 5 straight years.  The money was worth saving the pain-in-the-butt factor.  Also, when she starts preschool, it'll be nice if DH can drop her off and I can pick her up, which we wouldn't be able to do with one seat since he works 45 minutes away.  Plus this way we know they're *always* installed tightly.

The difference is the side impact protection, meaning the Boulevard has wings that stick up around the head and shoulders.  When I tried putting Kira into my car into the Boulevard, it was a really tight squeeze under the slant of the door frame.  Width-wise and height-wise (distance to the back of the front seat), the main frame of the two Britax seats are the same in my experience.  That's where the Triumph Advance and the True Fit were different -- they were both wider, but width wasn't so much our issue.

We tried them at BRU in January but bought them online in February.  We got these elsewhere, but I got our infant seat and my main stroller from Albee's before she was born and they're great!

Albee's website may have dimensions for you?
