Success after IF

does UTI in pg feel the same as non-pg?

I am all too familiar with what it feels like when I have a bladder infection when I'm not pg.  I have been feeling fine and had an ob appt today.  At the appt the dr said there were white blood cells in my urine, but as long as I was feeling ok he didn't think it needed to be treated.

This evening I'm having very slight odd feelings in the area of my bladder.  If it wasn't for the urine test today I would just assume it's baby/uterus related and not think twice about it.  It does not feel like when I normally get a uti.

For those who've had a UTI during pg, does it feel the same as when you're not pg, or are the symptoms more subtle?

  • Not always! My mom was an L&D nurse and told me if I had trouble peeing to get checked. They also make OTC UTI test sticks. You can have a completely symptom free UTI and not even know until you are tested at the docs office. They can cause uterine contractions, so get it checked if you even suspect that you have one.

  • I have a history of having UTIs and not knowing it...

That said, I'm surprised they aren't treating you?  Infections aren't a good thing during pregnancy.  When I was hospitalized for PTL, I was given antibiotics due to the slight possibility of a UTI.  I did feel some sort of bladder crampiness after the test came back slightly positive.  My understanding is that UTIs can cause contractions.

  • the sytems for me were more subtle.
Married on 3.20.2004. It took 30 month, 2 failed adoptions and IVF for our first miracle. We have had 9 foster kids since he was born and started the domestic adoption process when he was 10 month old, we had 4 failed matches in that time. After our daughter was born we brought her home and spent 2 weeks fearing we might lose her because of complications that came up. But Praise God all went through and she is ours forever! • I had a UTI and BV at 24wk pg.  Did it feel different?  not sure, don't think I had a UTI ever non-pregnant....

But I think 1) your dr should treat it and 2) you should go in if you have contx.  BV and UTI caused me to have PTL at 24wks which stopped once I started the antibiotics.  I had white blood cells in my urine and blood too but not noticeable, just very cloudy urine.

     the symptoms are subtle.

  • No, I had a raging bladder infection which made me pee all blood and sparked a series of contractions. I didn't feel a thing.
