Does anyone believe it???

Just watched my first I didnt know I was pregnant! And im thinking to myself what a bunch of sh*t!!!

Is there anyone that believe this happens so much that they can have a tv series about it that shows TWO women per show.

One of my best friends growing up, his wife had this supposially happen she is a trip to say the least and I dont believe it with her either for a sec!!!

Re: Does anyone believe it???

  • I know a girl who found out she was pg w/ twins at 6 months. She was really overweight to begin w/ and the type of BC she was using causes periods to stop.

My uncle delivered a baby to a woman who didn't believe it until she saw the baby.

    It happens.

  • Yes, I  believe it happens.

I have believed some of the stories on the show, but most of them make my roll my eyes.

  • Considering that I am still in the depths of extreme and constant m/s, I sometimes WISH that I didn't know I was pregnant!!

I find it pretty hard to believe too.

  • I just can't wrap my head around it. ?You have to be in serious denial, IMO.?

I have heard of someone IRL that didn't know.. but still. I just don't get it. ?

  • i'm not sure if i believe it or not.

i personally knew almost automatically just by how much more i was eating.  i got my BFP only a few weeks into my pregnancy.

my sister, on the other hand, claims that she didn't know she was pregnant until her 7th month. a part of me wants to say she knew, she just didn't say anything to anyone bc she knew how my family was going to react (long story).

they say it happens all the time tho. *shrug

  • It can happen.  I don't watch the show, but I had a friend who didn't know until she was pregnant until five months along and only found out when she went to the Doctors thinking she had a UTI.  I knew another girl in high school who delivered in the toilet because she thought it was a bowel movement.  Both were on the bigger side and never stopped having their cycles, or so they thought.  I don't understand not being in touch with your own body, but it happens.  The girl in high school was very young and clueless anyway.
  • That show is pretty ridiculous.  I definitely think that it is possible, though, and I have friends of friend who never knew either.  Sometimes baby bumps never come... the baby is in there but just tucked away realy good.

However, I've seen that show a bunch, and I dont believe all the girls.  For example there are some girls who I think just dont want to be pregnant so they dont even want to know if they are and they just go about their lives ignoring it.  There was another girl on that show who was planning her wedding and I think she was so wrapped up in the wedding and her dress etc etc that she refused to consider that she was pregnant.  Even when they dont get their period.

That show is horrible, I feel so bad for the babies, there was one who came out in a public bathroom and hit his head of the concrete... other babies are deliver straight into the dirty public toilet :-(

  • I knew a girl who went through it! Delivered the baby herself in her dorm room! None of us knew she was pregnant.
  • I didn't know I was pg until I was 10 weeks but that's just cause I don't follow my periods very closely (ok...at all.)  Even so, I started to get food aversion and immediately thought, "holy crap...I might be pg."  I didn't even have morning sickness and I figured it out.  I think those women are just not paying any attention.
  • Were it not for the whole missed period thing, I could easily have seen myself getting to 4 months without knowing. I didn't have any morning sickness at all and I didn't start to show in the least until 4 and a half months or so. My periods are regular, so I knew right away (plus I knew it was possible that I conceived in March). But if I had really irregular periods and wasn't expecting to get pregnant, I could see it taking forever for me to realize it. Once I got to the end of 4 months, though, I started to show a little bit and started to feel a little bit of movement. I feel like at that point I would have put two and two together and POAS.
  • How is it hard to believe?

A fair number of women don't experience what we consider traditional pregnancy symptoms or symptoms that can't be attributed to stress or illness or life changes.

Not everyone shows, even smaller women.

Women with anterior placentas rarely feel movement before 22 weeks, and one of my friends couldn't feel her baby enough at the end to do accurate kick counts because of her anterior placenta, even at full term.

Some women (like me) bleed throughout pregnancy, and if you have irregular cycles, it's not hard to believe you're just having another irregular cycle.

Finally - there are a lot of women who are told that they cannot get pregnant without a great deal of help.  If my doc tells me I am infertile, pregnancy is not the first thing my mind will jump to if I have no reason to think it is possible, you know?  Particularly if you don't have traditional symptoms.

Do I think most of the women making this claim are full of shiit?  Yeah, I do.  But still - I can totally understand how it could happen with the right set of circumstances.

  • Forgot to add that my biggest 1st tri symptom was constant exhaustion. That might have tipped me off because I would have known something was was "off" with my body, but I don't think my first conclusion would have been that I was pregnant. I would have probably chalked it up to stress or something.

Again words from my head to easjer's post. I'm actually getting annoyed by all the posts I see here about women expecting everyone's pregnancy would be just likes theirs.

I know a prenatal nurse who says this actually happens quite a bit more then people would think.

  • I never believed it, but a good friend of mine runs an ER and says it happens all the time.  She thinks people are in such deep denial they won't admit it to themselves!
  • When my sister gave birth to my nephew, there was a woman admitted to triage who didnt know she was pg, and ended up giving birth within an hour...in triage...with no doctor present, just nurses running all over the place while my sister laid in the bed beside her...so yeah, I believe it does happen.  How? I dont really know, but some people must just be oblivious to what is happening in the bodies.

  • DH's aunt didn't know until she was 6 1/2 months pregnant with DH's cousin.  She was in early menopause at the age of 26 and had no signs of pregnancy other than what she calls a "muffin top"... She would go months without her period, sometimes a whole year.

    And I agree with easjer.

    THIS!!

I also think it unfair to ASSUME every pregnant women who doesnt know shes pregnant by 1st trimester is in denial. My mom didnt know she was pregnant with my brother till she was 5 months. She bleed throughout her pregnancy.I MYSELF didnt know I was pregnant till I was 6 months with DD, I also bleed during my pregnancy, and was all of 102 lbs and had no bump!! I also had no "typical" pregnancy symptoms. I agree maybe some women are full of it but really it CAN happen!!

  • I just started watching it, too.  I don't buy it.  The one girl who was using condoms "only when we remembered" couldn't have been that surprised.  I mean, come on!  My first three months left me with no question...

  • actually, I used to doubt this completely...but then it happened to my roommate...she found out at month 7 1/2 or 8...we were both eating more (winter was our baking season) she had what we both thought was the flu for about a week that summer...there wasn't a change as far as the bathroom garbage went (month 6 was clue 1 that was more obvious w/ this she told me but since there were 2 brands in the garbage I wouldn't have noticed qty..) I actually gained more weight than her that fall/winter w/ our baking...I swear I wouldve thought I was preggo before her during that time period....I wish this pregnancy for me had started so smoothly (short of the not noticing part though of course!)

I would never have believed it if I hadn't been living with her that whole time myself....strange the things that can happen....love the 20/20 hindsight...
