A friend of mine just came by and gave me a birthday card along with a $20 gift card.  My birthday was back in June but she gave me this belated.  Her birthday was May 25th and I had DS on May 20th.  I had not gotten her card or anything before he was born so I never ended up giving her anything.  She also said she has a baby gift for me out in the car she just couldn't bring it in yet because she is in my building for a training class and didn't want it in class all day.  

So, what would you do? I feel horrible for never getting her anything now!  I would love to not accept the gift card because I am really broke after not being paid for 3 weeks, but I know that would be rude.

    Generally speaking, People don't give gifts with the expectation that you're one more person to receive a gift from.  I would graciously accept and thank her profusely!

    She sounds like a generous friend and I doubt she expects anything in return.  If you're ever hanging out with her like going out to lunch, you could always just cover the tab one day.

    Smile and say thank you. That's what I'd do. Maybe take a couple minutes to write her a nice thank you note, telling her how much you appreciate her friendship.

    I would just thank her for it.  I like the pp suggestion that next time you are out to lunch with her just pick up the tab.  Is the gift card for a restaurant?  Maybe suggest going there with her.

    It isn't for a restaurant, but that would be a great idea.  I still like the lunch idea though, I might have to do that!  We haven't met up in quite some time.
