For those who remember, SIL had PTL dilation/ctx at 31 weeks, was in the hospital for a week and has been on home modified bedrest since. She was gonna be released from bedrest tomorrow when she officially hits 34 weeks.
We were talking 3 hours ago about how she could finally get to shopping and stuff this weekend as she hadn't gotten anything done, and how her doc thought she's make it at least to 37 weeks. She mentioned she was expelling a lot of mucous but the doc said it was fine... I don't know why I didn't think about mucous plugs, but I guess 7.5 months can make you forget all your labor knowledge.
I get a call 10 minutes ago that her water broke. Looks like I will be an aunt tonight! Sooooo excited and bummed that I can't hop a plane to Chicago and be there. Sigh.
Prayers/good thoughts needed that my niece/nephew doesn't need any NICU time.
Re: SIL just went into labor at 34 weeks!
I am not a Dr. but I have practically lived in the NICU for the past 2 months. At 34 weeks, it's very very likely that your niece/nephew will spend a couple of weeks in the NICU, but they will be just fine! At 34 weeks, the chance of survival is the same as it is at full term.
I had a a scheduled C at 34 weeks...I had steriod shots prior to delivery...Aidan was born 5 lb 6 oz - a good size for being 6 weeks early...she breathed on her own, was a good eater and regulated her own temp after a few days...she had another (unrelated) issue, but otherwise would have gone home after 5 days. They tell you to expect 2 weeks, but if baby does well it could def be sooner...one good sign is if baby comes out crying.
GL and keep us posted!!
