Triangle book club?

Although I don't have a ton of extra time, I really need to start taking time for myself -- and probably time that's not spent watching TV at night when DD goes to bed.  Anyone interested in starting a Triangle area book club?  I could use some motivation for reading new books.  And another reason to get together doesn't hurt!

Re: Triangle book club?

  • There already is one!  :)  McJ can give you the details.

  • Yup! We're meeting again August 6 at  6pm! We meet up at Starbucks on Lake Boone Trl - usually in the little room they have. This month we're reading American Wife by Curtis Sittenfeld. We usually meet the first or second week of the month on a tue/wed/thurs night... it's a fun group.

  • Racey-we should look into starting a N. Raleigh/Wake Forest Group because driving from N. Raleigh to Lake Boone Trail at 6:00pm would take about 50 minutes. And my DH doesn't even get home until 7:00 sometimes, so I would be stuck bringing Jocelyn. I wonder if there are enough mommies in this area to get one started?

  • We frequently have baby visitors & they're always welcome! :-) I live in N.Raleigh (not as far N. as you two) and it only takes 15 min. to get there. Just skip the beltline and it's easy peasy.
  • Hmmm...how do you get there? I would take 98 or 540 to 50 (Creedmoor)  and follow that to Lake Boone, but is a hike for me. It took me 40 minutes to get to the Bear Rock there the other day not during rush hour (11:30am for a mini GTG). Jocelyn is no fun in the car that long each way at bed time. Boo. The joy's of mommyhood.

  • Well, I'd do Six Forks to Lynn to Lead Mine and follow that all the way down, across Glenwood, past the mall (it changes to Blue Ridge here), left on Morningside, Left on Wycliff & the plaza is at the end of the road a mile later.

I think there is less traffic and way fewer lights that way, but like I said, I don't live nearly as far north as you.

  • Hmm... although I don't mind the drive, I'd have to bring Natalie also and I was hoping for a mommy-away time activity (I pretty much have none right now given I gave up my pedicures Crying).

Dbert- I'd be up for one in N.Raleigh/WF.  My neighbor friend may be interested also.  There are a few other Bumpies up our way that might be interested.

McJ -- I'm going to check out that book just in case I can talk DH into getting home earlier. :)

Even if you can't come, I think the book was fun :) I have to really push myself to use my "evening time" to read...it's so easy to just veg and watch TV.

I hope you guys can join up, but totally understand if traffic & children prevent it.

  • Yeah, not that I don't love every minute I spend with Jocelyn, it has just never taken me less than 40 mintues to get over to the Rex area, and going both ways in a car and sitting through book club with her just would not be enjoyable.

Lets look into doing a Wake Forest one, maybe my neighbor (Jules_NC) would want to join, and I know Jenhum is over this way.

  • I just wanted to say if I'd be interested if you were doing one in WF, Lake Boone Trail would be probably too far of a commute for me.  I use to read a lot but lately find myself vegging everynight, maybe something like this would get me back into it!
