So I think it'd be nice to have my laptop with me in the hospital, to email pictures, check email, update my blog (I recognize it's foolish to think I'll have time for all this...) It'd also be nice to have my fancy digital camera, to take those pictures. And my ipod, to play soothing music. However, we're now talking ~$2000 in electronics in a pregnant woman's room. And when I leave my room to wander the halls, hysterically trying to go unmedicated, I will leave all this in the room. I'm not saying hospital workers aren't trustworthy, but it seems like a lot of valuables to be leaving around. Anyone have any thoughts on this? I'm undecided what to do. I certainly don't want to have to worry about them, but they'd certainly be nice to have.
Re: Laptop and other electronics in hospital
Maybe leave them in the car while you're in labor, then have DH or someone else bring them to your room afterwards.
Or maybe check with the nurses to see if there's a closet or drawer in your room that locks.
My SIL had private room for her induction, labor and delivery.. An in what was a first for the nurses at this hospital she and her husband brought their Wii to play games and pass the time (I was told that he used it much more than her).
We won't be bringing more than our camera and a cell phone. I don't want DH distracted by gadgets when I need him. If he had a laptop it would be as good as leaving him at home because he'd spend his time watching shows or reading forums..
Things get stolen in hospitals all the time. Watch out for your valuables!!! See if there is a place in the room where you can lock them up?
I used to work in a department that handled that at a hospital and I wrote many sorry but we don't reimburse for lost/stolen items letters to patient that had items taken.
It is sad but they are always people who will steal if given the opportunity.
