Furniture costs???

Doing some research and just curious what everyone is paying for:

Crib

Changing table

Chair/Glider

What is reasonable?  Middle of the road costs?

Re: Furniture costs???

  • Crib = $600

Changing table/dresser (we plan on getting a combo) = TBD (going shopping this weekend)

    Glider/ottoman combo = $200

I don't know what's reasonable because I'm sure everyone has different opinions but you'll just have to do your research and find something you like within your budget that has good reviews.  It's a lot of work!  I'm dreading our dresser mission this weekend... I'm having such a hard time finding something I like anywhere that's in our budget.

  • I've spent $350 on the crib, $90 on the changing table and haven't purchased a glider yet...seems like $250 is average.

  • We got our crib, armoire and 6 drawer chest for $1200. The rocker was from a consignment shop, I paid $40 for it. However, I am having a slipcover made for it for $250.

    crib: $380

changing table: we got a dresser, $400

    glider: $299

    these prices don't include shipping/tax.

  • The nursery furniture we are considering is around 1600. This is for the crib (and toddler conversions), dressing/changing table and a tall dresser.

We haven't priced anything else (rockers, etc)

  • Crib- $240 for a lifetime crib

Changing table-  Bought a dresser with a removable changing table top for $260

    Chair/Glider-  $250 (ottoman included)

Edit:  We actually saved 10% on this and ended up paying $700, including taxes, total for all three items at BRU b/c we opened a credit card account there.  We thought it was worth it since we spent so much, but will probably cancel the card before too long.

  • Crib - $400 (Munire Essex convertible)

    Changing Table - DH is building a bookshelf/changing table ~about $75

Dresser - Bounght off Craigslist $50

Glider - $400 (Best Chair glider from Haverty's)

  • Crib:  $400 (Lollipop crib by A.P. Industries)

    Rocker: $5 (garage sale)

    Changing table: $20 (Craigslist)

    Dresser:  Free (Curb)

    I'm such a cheapskate!

ETA: FWIW, the best deal I found on baskets for the changing table was actually Bed Bath and Beyond.  They were large and only $7 each.

  • Crib - Around 379 on sale from 499

    Changing table - (it's a shorter/longer dresser) - 299, on sale from 399

    Chair/Glider - 450

  • You should spend what your budget allows, b/c you can get great items in every price range.  That being said, we spent:

Crib (Young America) - $425 (original price was $650)

    Changing table - free

Glider and Ottoman (Best Chair) - $500 (original price was $800+)

  • Crib 250 on sale

    Dresser/changing tabel 250

    lazy boy 500

  • We wanted a good quality convertible crib, but inexpensive because we're not sure we'll ever use it as a full-sized bed. We paid $400 for the crib.

    $400 for a dresser

    $70 for a changing table

$400 for glider for #1 + around 200-300 for the ottoman with it. It was 2 years ago so I can't remember.

  • We just ordered the Tori by Savanna set from JCPenney.

    Crib--$379

We didn't get an actual changing table--it's a changing tower, more of a low dresser that's actually functional after the diaper days are over--$379

We also ordered a hutch that goes on the changing tower and a 4 drawer dresser. All pieces, including conversion rails for the crib and shipping, was just over $1600.

We haven't chosen a glider yet, but the ones we're looking at range from $300-700 (including ottoman)

  • I guess that question all depends on quality and how long you plan to use this furniture.  Since my ILs were paying they said get the best so our DD can have this furniture for the rest of her life.  We went with stanley young america which is a pricier brand but the furniture will literally last a a lifetime.

The prices are approximate because i did not pay...

Crib: Convertible with todler rails conversion kit $930

Dresser: $800 (we got a large 7 drawer)

Chair: $300 we got a brown leather recliner from a furniture store locally this was not stanley.

  • Crib - Gift from Mom - $379 (JCP)

Changing table - we will either buy a dresser at JCP for $229 or we will use a hand me down changing table and paint it.

Chair/Glider - It was my grandmothers and she passed away a month before we found out we were pregnant. We may recover but I wanted to use her chair.

  • I'm frugal by nature, and love a good bargain.

    Crib - $142 from JCPenney

Changing table - $15, repurposed dresser from a yard sale

Rocker/Glider - $600 - a major splurge for us, but it will go in the family room after the nursery

  • Lifetime Crib: $450 (free shipping)

    Dresser: $250

    Changing Table: $75

Upholstered ottoman: planning to spend around $400.

We originally were looking at cribs in the $200-300 range, but couldn't find any that we liked that converted to full size beds, so we upped our budget.  We purchased one of the dressers in the crib set, but it's too tall to be used as a diaper changer, so we purchased an cheap changing table from Walmart.   We didn't want to purchase the diaper changer dresser that came with our set because it didn't seem practical for when our baby outgrew diapers.

crib & changing table - we got the Graco Lauren series, which is VERY affordable at BRU (I think it was about $250 total)

nightstand (next to glider) - $50

bookcase - next to nothing, probably about $50 (DH and his best friend are making it)

glider - $400 if we get the one i'm leaning towards, 200 extra for the ottoman (can't decide yet if we have room for that)

SO when all is said and done, under a grand! Smile

  • This certainly depends on your needs/wants, style, and budget. However, I just purchased my furniture online today and paid $870 for three Da Vinci pieces (crib, bookcase, and dresser). The price seemed more reasonable that local shops and furniture stores we looked at. I decided against getting a changing table, since I feel they have a limited lifespan and I can always use the dresser top with a changing pad and/or my bathroom vanity. I suggest checking out the site www.simplybabyfurniture.com - they offer free shipping on all orders, no tax outside of California, and they have a great live chat option for questions. I loved it, but will wait to see how everything looks when it arrives and we assemble it. Can't wait! Oh, and don't forget to sign up for their newsletter to get a 5% discount off your total order - it saved me about $45.

  • Crib: $380, toddler bed rail and full bed convertible rails $170

Dresser (instead of changing table): $420

    Glider + ottoman: $560

We purchased high quality, all hardwood furniture b/c we'll have the crib as a full bed with the matching dresser forever as the guest bedroom set. The glider is a fabulous Best Chair that will go into our living room after it's done being used in the nursery. (We didn't pay for shipping b/c we ordered from a local store. Shipping was really expensive on everything else we looked at.)

  • Crib: $399 (Munire Essex)

Changing Table: $250 (White Cottage Dresser from Target)

Glider&Ottoman: $299 (Carter's from BRU, on super deep discount)

I think that we did all of this SUPER cheap... we were prepared to pay much more but couldn't resist the deals -- especially on the Glider/Ottoman. We had our eyes on the Pottery Barn one which is like $1200...

  • I think the prices we paid are somewhere in the middle.  Not the cheapest available but certainly not the priciest either.

Crib:  $380 (lifetime... converts to toddler and full)

    Changing table/ dresser combo:  $450

    Chair/Glider:  $150

    Toy Box:  $100

I feel that we probably could have found better quality for the prices.  I loved the look but now I wish I had found something different.  I wish I had read more reviews on the company and the pieces themselves.  It's all by Jardine (yuck) and we got it at BRU.

  • Crib - $1000 (PBK)

Armoire - $100 (my Mom found at an antique store)

    Dresser - $0 - we already own

Glider - TBD. If we get the one I want, that matches our crib, it will be about $850. Not sure if we'll be able to do that.

  • Crib - $ 599 (Munire Newport Lifetime Crib)

    Dresser - $ 769 (Munire Newport dresser)

    Hutch - $ 439  (goes w/ Munire Newport dresser)

    Armoire - $ 969 (Munire Newport collection)

Changing Table - around $ 100 or so. This was an afterthought and we purchased it at BRU. Not sure of the brand or anything, but it matched our other furniture pieces fine and did the job.

This is everything we bought for our DS almost 3 years ago, but it is all very good quality furniture and the crib converts to a full-size bed, so he has been able to use everything now as a toddler. We initially planned for him to keep this set and buy something new for the new baby, but because of the size of the furniture it won't fit comfortably in our other bedroom and we want to keep nursery in it's current room. So, now we are on the hunt for new furniture for our DS and will reuse his current furniture when the baby comes.

  • Crib- $300

Changing table- Will not be getting one, we will be using the dresser from our guest room for the baby and will just put a changing pad on top of that to save space and money.

Glider- MIL found one at a yard sale for $30, only had to pay $3 for a can of white spray paint and $40 for some glider slipcovers for the cushions off ebay :).  So a grand total of $73, but we only had to pay for $43 of it.

When we were looking at cribs, our absolute max was $500 and that was for a lifetime crib.  But, we got lucky and found one at Babies R Us that we both loved for $300.  And we got the mattress there when they were having a sale and got a Serta mattress for half off, $70!  I think anything equal or over what you would pay for adult furniture is too much unless you plan on using it forever.

  • Crib - 450 + 160 for the conversion kit (just in case it gets discontinued or something)

Dresser - we haven't bought one yet, in the size we want 250-310 seems reasonable.. (the one that matches the crib is 550! *sniff* It is really cute though...)

Rocker - We chose an actual rocker/recliner from a regular store, 300. A slipcover to protect it from Target is about 70. When I'm done with that stage it will look nice in the family room.

  • The set we came across is solid hardwood and about $2500 for the converter crib, dresser, changing dresser and a hutch. We haven't purchased yet, but I am a planner and couldn't resist looking at cute baby furniture :-)
