My job doesn't offer disability. Lovely. So I went on bedrest at 25 weeks and used up all of my sick time that was intended for my maternity leave. After the babies were born I started my family medical leave act, which has been unpaid. I won't get paid again until Sept 15th b/c of the way our pay cycles go at work. So I didn't get paid from April 17th - Sept 15th. NO fun!
My company has actually been really great. They are letting me work from home while on bedrest as long as I feel up to it. If I can't handle it, or the doctor says no more, then I'll go on STD. So for now, I'm still getting a full salary.
OK OK I know this is a serious post, but I cant do anything but laugh to myself about "std"!! I keep thinking "SEXUALLY TRANSMITTIED DISEASES" haha replace that with every STD in the replies and it's rather humorous hahaha
i got paid 100% for STD during the time i was off before i gave birth - i wuold have only had 2 more weeks left, so thankfully I gave birth when i did.
for maternity leave i get 10 paid weeks then 10 unpaid weeks with job protection.
I get std thru the state I work in plus my company has 100% salary continuation for std. (I have to pay the state std back to my co. so we don't get to double dip).
We have salary continuation for 4 weeks, too, I forgot about that. Our company overlaps the two, though, if you work up until you deliver. If you work until you deliver, you get the first four weeks at 100%, then the remainder of std is covered at 70% for the last couple of weeks, to total 6 weeks for a vag birth.
If you decide to go on leave prior to delivering, the STD doesn't kick in until the birth of the child. Salary continuation starts the day you decide to stop working.
Re: s/o of stopping work, did you get std or was it unpaid?
