Rec. on where to take child birth classes for natural births

My husband and I would like to have a natural delivery, I am a little unsure about the hospital birthing class as I feel they will not spend as much time on the natural ways of labor.

Anyone have any recs for classes outside of the hospital?

  • Yes! I have been going to a couple (mainly the woman) who teaches the Bradley Method. I will try and find the link to the main website for the Bradley Method, as they have a list of teachers in our area you can check out. Bradley Method focuses on natural birth and really involves dad to be the labor coach. Lemme know if you want more info! ;-)

It is fairly expensive (we paid $310 for our instructor), but I think it is worth it as they have a 90% success rate for natural births (the remaining 10%, according to them, is for those pregnancies who NEEDED medical intervention in the end, not the mom changing her mind). It also is for about 12-13 weeks (one class a week), so you get very prepared. It has been very good for us so far and I'd be happy to talk about it more on the 1st! ;-)

Here is the website, however, if you wanted to check it out first hand and see what they say for themselves:?https://www.bradleybirth.com/

Otherwise, I know hypnobirthing has good reviews (they focus a lot on focus-items to disspell stress/pain), but didn't look too deeply into them to know where to find instructors or costs. (FWIW, Bradley also incorporates some hypnobirthing techniques into its teachings.)

    I hope that helps!!?

  • Hmmm, an epidual costs at least 1000$, that's just for the MDA to place it, Bradley costs 300$.  You have to decide where you want to spend your money.

These people are in your neck of the woods.

  • We took Hypnobirthing through HealthEast at St. Joseph's Hospital.  We were EXTREMELY pleased with both the class and with the use of the hypnobirthing techniques when DD was born.  I highly recommend it!  I'm not sure if it's a requirement of the HealthEast class that you plan to deliver at a HealthEast facility, but it just so happened that all 5 couples in the class did.  Otherwise, our wonderful instructor, Julie Zappa, also has a private practice.  You can find her and other MN Hypnobirthing instructors here.
