Sizing shoes for DC?

How much "growing room" do you typcially leave for DC in their shoes?  Half a size?  A whole size?

We bought Cole a new pair of shoes Saturday.  He measured right at a 9 wide.  They gave us a 10.  They seem HUGE to me.  When the saleswoman was trying them on him, she felt his toes and said, "Oh yeah, he has plenty of growing room in there."

Yeah...like two years worth!!  There's a whole inch between his toes and the end of the shoe.

He hasn't worn them yet.  I'm thinking about exchanging them for a 9.5 instead so that he'd not tripping all over himself.

Re: Sizing shoes for DC?

  • I do no more than a half size, otherwise, what's the point of buying them fitted shoes? Might as well just buy them size 11s at age 1 and only buy the one pair of shoes, kwim?

  • I'd say half a size only. A whole size is just too big.

  • We get sized at Stride Rite and they do a 1/2 of a size.  So if she is just right in a 6 she has room to grow in a 6 1/2.  We get new shoes every 3-4 months.

  • We most often buy Pedipeds Flex.  They have an extra insole that snugs them up a bit.  You remove it when the feet grow.

DD often wears shoes appx a size too big.  Not more than 3/4 of an inch though.

  • I would exchange IMO
  • DS wears wide shoes, so we always shop at Stride Rite.  They suggest a half size up and we usually get new shoes every 3-4 months.

  • We always shop at Stride Rite and do 1/2 a size up. The shoes are pricey but totally worth it.

I would exchange the shoes you bought. 1/2 size bigger should be enough.
