I am always putting apostrophes where they don't belong. For example, in the previous sentence I typed "apostrophe's" and had to go back and change it. For some reason I have a really hard time getting rid of this habit! I'm always going back and editing errant apostrophes out of my posts.
What do you guys do?
Re: What's the #1 grammar/punctuation/spelling mistake that you know is wrong but constantly make anyway
grammar mistakes?
I split infinitives, and it bothers me that I do it, but I still do it.
Dangit! It's early - I get one free pass!
fixed
It's kinda more my spelling/typing skills. I type pretty fast but a lot of times I reverse the g and n in words like morning. I type mornign all the time! Sometimes I fix it on here, sometimes I don't. I'm like eh they know what I mean.
I see you picked a name for the baby! I love it- Charlie is such a great name!!
ETA: I also do the hyphen thing. I get a little hyphen happy sometimes!
Thanks! We really like it too. It's fun to be able to call him by his name now
I can't spell; I mix up vowels and leave out syllables - very sad but at least I'm aware of it and always spell check.
In posts and emails I overuse the dash - it just makes typing more "speech" like.

If someone messes with kittengator, she'll kick their butt. Should be "his or her" butt. But we all do it. It's gender-neutral and less wordy.
You know I think when I was finishing up with college this was starting to become more the norm/acceptable. I think it was even listed as "correct" in a manual somewhere!
This. Things I know I do that bother me are, run on sentences, I spell for crap & I know the difference between you're & your but I screw it up all the time by just typing to fast & not proofreading. <-----case in point.
I wrote a whole paper about the acceptance of singular "they" for a linguistics class. Interesting stuff for a word nerd.
My silly Lily is almost 4.
this.
and no matter if i was an english major or not - i still have to think before i write affect and effect.
And if you are Joey on Friends, he never knew how to properly use them IRL in the air!
Air quotes aren't really used to emphasize, they are used to point out something sarcastic or ironic.
PS - I use underlining to emphasize instead of quotes, so there are other ways to do it.
This. On here I don't even bother to check, if I am writing something for work I pay close attention and triple check everything.
When you are pointing something out you are emphasizing it.
Hmm, I think you are "missing my point" but whatever.
