Update on Night 2 of Ferber

So, after going down after 20 minutes (down from an hour), he slept from 8:30- 1:00.  That's huge right there.  Then went down after being nursed to drowsy and slept until 3.  He was pissed at 3 and spent time sleepily crying and fussing and the nodding off for a few minutes until 4.  He then slept until 6 and woke for the morning.

Except for the 3 am wakeup, things went a lot better last night!  I have to do bedtime tonight by myself b/c dh will be golfing, so I'm so nervous!  He normally does the evening checks because ds cries more when he sees me.

I'm glad things are going well!  I gave in last night...night 3, after and hour and 20 minutes I just felt so bad.  So tonight I will try again :-/

  • Congratulations. Night 3 was the turning point for me. I was really starting to feel confident and want to marry Dr. Ferber by that point!

Ugh, I can imagine most would.  That's a lot.  Your baby might not be ready for it and you  might have to scrap it and try again in a few weeks.  What part are you trying to train him on?  Does he have bad sleep associations or just weaning him from nighttime feedings?

I've started making the save the date magnets as we speak. Big Smile

  • see?  it IS getting easier.  plan something tiring for your weekend, because i'd be willing to bet he - and more importantly, you - will be STTN by then.  good job and good luck tonight!!

  • That's awesome!  I bet he'll do even better tonight.  Keep in mind that if he is getting more upset during checks you don't have to do them.  At this age the seperation anxiety kinda kicks in- I know DD is way worse if I have to go in and then leave.  I hope it takes less than 10 minutes tonight! :)

I can't believe that he might be STTN.  I never thought it would happen!

We went to bed at 9:30 last night and slept until he woke at 1.  That was the longest sleep I've had in a long time.  I was so deep in sleep I thought it was the morning.  Makes a difference in how you feel during the day.

  • Way to go!  Isn't it amazing the quick progress!?!?  Just hang in there!  There can sometimes be bumps along the way, but if you just stick with it, you will all be better off!

    Good luck with tonight!

    Great news!

I second the idea of skipping the check-ins at night - esp if he gets worked up when he sees you.

Last night was a setback for us (Night 4) but its because we were in teh care for a while before bedtime, I think it screwed him up.

  • Yes, DS ALWAYS sleeps better when it is DH doing it.

I don't start work today until noon, and today DS put up a fight about going down for his first nap which he has not yet done.  I'm sure it's my presence.
