Why do they say baby's movement slows down before labor?

Im wondering why. What makes the baby slow down? Anyone hear this and if its really true I guess labor is a ways away for me. Because she moves like crazy all the time.

  • I dont know...i guess bc they are getting into position? Not really sure why though.

  • To my knowledge they're NOT supposed to slow down, they're supposed to move the same amount, but they just have less room so it's more 'rolls' than kicks...

  • My midwife told me that they don't slow down. They should be moving all the way up to labor. You may not feel the same type of movement because of less room, but you should still feel stretching and moving.
  • Movement is not suppose to decrease in frequency. Perhaps the word "slow down" refers to the intensity of the movement? I get virtually no more quick jabs, but instead more of a rolling, shifting feeling.

You are still suppose to feel the baby as much as before, just different sensations come as room runs out...

  • No I know there isnt supposed to be a decreased movement etc. im talking about the owt of saying like the calm before the storm type deal.. ?

  • The OWT according to my grandma is that the baby takes a really long nap to prepare for labor and movements slow down before delivery.

She asks me every day if the baby has slowed down.  I explained the first few times about kick counts, fear of the cord being wrapped etc. She still insists on asking now I just laugh it off and tell her no : )
