Best baby carrier for low back problems?

I went to Walmart today and used the Baby Bjorn, and about 20 minutes into our shopping my mid and lower back started to hurt and didn't stop until we got back to the car. Anyone have a recommendation for a baby carrier that doesn't hurt your lower back? DS is only a month old and weighs probably around 10 pounds. If I don't get another carrier, my babywearing days are numbered.

Which Baby Bjorn do you have? I think the Synergy has additional lumbar support, maybe that would help?

I have owned 8 carriers before I found and love the Ergo, I still use it for my toddler as well. I have had spinal fusions so...well.

The ergo baby carrier is supposed to be better for your back because it has a waist band which distributes the weight to your hips. I used mine for the first time today and my back still hurt but not as badly. Not sure if I am going to be able to carry my DD without any back pain at all. I think this may be a side effect of my c-section.

A good carrier will not cause you pain - I wear kiddo for hours (he's almost 18 pounds) no problem.

I'd go with either a soft structured carrier (ergo, beco), mei tai (like the babyhawk) or a woven wrap (more supportive and versitile than a moby/stretchy). All 3 of these are supportive enough for toddlers and can be used for front and back carries.

The bjorn is uncomfortable because it leaves baby dangling off of you by his crotch instead of snug against you supported by the bum - especially when used in an outward facing carry..

I use a Moby and LO is probably 13 pounds or so. I've walked with him for 30 minutes straight in our neighborhood, food shopping, BJs, etc. I have pinched nerves in my upper back, but that might help.

The mei tai wrap looks interesting. I've heard good things about the Ergo, may check that out as well. I don't think I could wear that Bjorn again. DH likes it, but he's barrel chested so 10 pounds of baby isn't really daunting for him. I'm no lightweight, but that carrier is really not comfortable to me. Thanks for the input, ladies!

I LOVE my Beco Butterfly 2!!! It is in the same category as the Ergo as far as quality, and I think it fits really well. I read all the reviews before I bought mine, and people commented that the Beco was a little better than the Ergo for shorter people, so I went with it, and I just LOVE it. I walked around the neighborhood this morning completely comfortable with no back pain... it has nice lumbar support. Baby was asleep in 2 minutes in it, he loves it. I was SO happy, b/c I could not get comfortable with the sling I have (tried both the Peanut Shell and the Over the Shoulder Baby Holder) b/c of my back, and now that I found my Beco I can wear my baby!!! Yahoo!

Ditto. I love my Beco.
