For those who have been induced...

Any tips for me?

Day/night before?

Day of?

Things to ask/tell doctor?

Anything is appreciated, thanks!

Re: For those who have been induced...

  • I was checked in the night before my induction date and given the medicine to get me "ready" to be induced. Eat a good meal before the cut off time because you may have to go without for awhil (same goes with water). Pitocin induced contractions are worse than regular labor contractions so ask for the pain meds as soon as you want/need it. Good luck and congratulations!

  • Agree with PP, ask for pain meds when it gets really bad because I went really fast with the pitocin and the window for an epi was really small.
  • I went in the night before and didn't go into labor until 3pm the next day.  I would ask for an ambien to help you sleep if you go in the night before because I had a really hard time falling asleep with all the monitors hooked up to me (the heartrate monitor and the contractions monitor) I would also bring in lots of things to do while you wait, books, magazines, laptop since it might be a few hours until active labor begins.  MH and I played games on my Iphone and he did a little work on his laptop.

I would also eat a good meal because you won't be able to eat again and while you won't want to eat once the contractions start, you will probably be hungry up until that point.

My doctor used cytotec, which has some controversy surrounding it but I had no problems.  I felt comfortable using it after I discussed it with my doctor.  I was given pitocin once the contractions were already in full swing and my water broke.  I was in labor about 10 hours and pushed for about an hour.  All in all, I thought that was pretty good for a first baby!
