Sadly... sometimes they just don't work.

I am really sorry about your BFN.  They suck. :(

  • IUI only has a 28% chance of working each cycle...sorry to say, the odds aren't much better than TI.

I'm so sorry for your BFN. I'm 100% sure it's nothing you did.

  • No answer- just wanted to say I am sorry
  • Honestly, I couldn't begin to list all the reasons why it doesn't work as there are just too many.  Just take time for yourself and talk to your RE about the next step and what will be changed...if anything ...next time.

  • yeah...   even if everything goes perfectly, there's no guarantee it will work.    which makes it suck even more.   our RE only gave us a 10-15% chance of success with IUIs, so we figure it is much more likely that it won't work than it will (but its still better than the 5% we were looking at if we kept trying on our own).

sorry the IUI didn't work!    (((HUGS)))

  • I wish I had an answer for you.  I was thinking the same thing about my last IUI.  We did everything right and everything went perfectly, but it just didn't work.  I am so sorry for your BFN.  Just don't lose hope!

  • Just wanted to say I'm sorry and ditto pp's.  Unfortunately, there's often no way to know what really happened.  This is what makes IF so very difficult and sucky:(

  • Sorry your IUI didn't work!  I have been asking myself the same thing for the past three and a half years and still don't have a good answer as to why it doesn't work.

Just because.  I know - it's the worst answer ever, but IUI success rates are generally pretty low (only 20-25%), so BFNs happen a lot :(  We had five IUI BFNs and it suuuucked.

    Hang in there...

  • Best suggestion is to talk to your RE.

That feeling of "why didn't it work" is very common, there probably isn't a woman on this board that hasn't asked herself, her husband, her RE and her G*d "why didn't it work?"

In my case, the RE said, No good reason, everyhting looked great on paper. UGH! Really? What I wanted was an answer.

3 yrs ttc, 3ivfs, 4 iuis and finally a baby boy! And then a girl to follow. 2 under 2!
  • I just had my "WTF" with my RE for IVF #1 yesterday.  He just kept repeating over and over that he didn't know why it didn't work for us.  That of all the folks cycling during that time, ours was the most textbook perfect and we SHOULD have had success.  Sometimes there is no answer.

  • I ovulated on my own before the trigger, so that's why one of mine didn't work.  I think I read somewhere that the chance of them working is only 30%. : (  I'm sorry it didn't work!
  • I'm so sorry it didn't work. I did 3 and none of them worked. The worst part is that I have no idea why. Hoping for better response if you do another!
  • I'm in the middle of my first IUI cycle. My doctor warned us that it usually doesn't work the first time since they are trying to figure out how you will respond. Was this your first IUI too? I'm so sorry about your BFN. (((((hugs)))))

Yes, this was our first IUI.  Thanks for your reassurance, everyone.  We will be awaiting AF to start another cycle on follistim and another IUI.

  • i don't know why stuff doesn't work - i don't think i got pg this cycle - i can take one last test tonight as a glimmer of hope but I really think it's busted

what bugs me is that this was a perfect cycle, lining was good, 2 mature follies, bd right time, hsg a 2 months ago (and I heard this increases chances)....but i don't think it worked

and yet last year on a thin lining with clomid we conceived twins on the first try when we shouldn't have conceived at all....

pg is such a crap shoot....
