Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Help! Storytime and B&N...

So Jordin is almost 14 months and I am wondering if I can start taking her to storytime at Barnes & Noble on Saturday mornings. Is she too young? I do read to her at home and she has somewhat of a good attention span. Has anyone tried this out yet...

You can try, but the B & N story time is all ages, so it's likely to not be the best fit for her.  Check out your local library.  They should have a baby story time and those are usually really fun--songs and stories and puppets etc.

  • I agree w/ Tess - the baby story times we've been to have puppets, which is the ONLY thing that hold's DD's attention.  If it were just a book - even one incorporating songs - she wouldn't be interested.

  • Does the library do them? Our library has story time for infants/young toddlers, and then one for older toddlers/younger kids. She would probably not be interested if she's too far away from the actual book. But IDK.

And HI!! I was just thinking about you and your DD on Friday! (It's chal :)

  • Hey Chal! How is everything? Yeah, you guys all brought up good points. I called my library and they said that they stopped the storytime for her age group because they get too busy in the summer with kids out of school. But they are starting up again in September so I will go then! But until then I need to find some type of cheap indoor activity. It is waaaay too hot in South FL right now to hang out outside lol!

Our library has some great baby/toddler story times too. However, I was thinking of taking DS to B&N's story time Friday evening simply because Clifford the big red dog will be there. B&N actually has a character every month and they visit at all the area libraries at different times during the month. However, the library story times are usually when we're at work so it doesn't usually work out that I can bring DS. So we'll try B&N here soon. I figure getting out a little bit is better than nothing. I'm just ready to wander the store instead if DS isn't into it, or we just have to go home.

We went to the B & N story time last week and it was wild and chaotic.  But we often go to B & N on non-story time days and just hang out and look at books and sometimes have a snack at the cafe.  That's really fun.
  • Are you going to the one in Boca? Boynton Beach B&N is on Monday mornings. I will tell you I hate the Boynton Beach one. I only take DS so he can interact with other kids.

I'd say it's worth checking out.  I've been to ours with my 15 month old and liked it.  It's very relaxed, so I don't feel bad getting up in the middle of a story if she's antsy or even coming in late.  She is too young for any after-activity, but after the story we usually just walk around looking at books on our own.  DD really just loves seeing the other kids.
Expecting our 3rd little girl this New Year's!
