Letting your child play on the floor of a resteraunt? I was at cracker barrel today for lunch and a mother (and grandmother) were letting the little boy (approx 1-he was starting to walk) crawl and sit on the floor! I couldn't believe it! First- the waiters and waitresses had to watch out that they werent tripping over him and were carrying big trays of food around/over him. Second- a resteraunt floor...eeww!! This is why I will teach my child from the beginning that they must be in their seat at resteraunts...I'm not judgemental and I understand that kids don't always cooperate, but this just did not seem like the right solution to me!
Re: What do you think of...
Nasty
This exactly. People do realize other people's dirty, nasty shoes have been all over that floor that their baby is crawling all over and licking.
I totally think its gross and unsafe.
I do however see it frequently in the hospital where I work.
I cannot believe the stupidity and just have say something. The parents look dumbfounded, when I say the floor is very dirty. I get the tilted head, suprised look.
if and when this happened they wopuld sue the restaurant because their child was injured due to their own stupidity... didnt you know that's the cool thing to do...
I do this with my nieces and newphews and will certianly do it with my LO when he/she is here! I was once in a restaurant with my 2 nieces and DH. The 2 yr old began crying and pouting because she wanted more ketchup. I scooped her up, took her outside, put her in her car seat and told her we would sit there until she was "ready and quiet" to go back in and behave.
It took all of 2 minutes for her to calm down and go back in.
And if she didn't calm down, I would have had no problem letting DH finish lunch with our 4 yr old neice and boxing up my lunch to eat when we got home. Then I would have made the 2 yr old a PB&J sandwich (so I can't be accused of starving her). But when you show kids that their behavior is not going to be tolorated, they get it and usually give in.
I am a teacher, and trust me when I say, KIDS CAN BEHAVE IN RESTAURANTS, it takes time, but they just need proper behavior modeled, practiced, and reinforced and negative behavior needs immediate consequences. I hate when my sister says, "We'll see how you do in 2 years" REALLY? Cause your son sits just fine in his chair when he is out with me, otherwise he knows he is going in the car without ice cream! (Little vent there ;-)
