Anyone's dc have HORRIBLE tantrums?

DS is an angel 90% of the time. He's polite, says please and thank you, gets along with others, shares, sits down and eats in a restaurant, just an all around good kid. No matter where we go or what we do, people compliment us on how good he is.

But when he has a tantrum, holy hell its a big one. No joke, he has been screaming bloody murder for about a half hour now because we left chuck e cheese. When we got home, he flailed himself on the floor and he tries to hurt us or hurt himself. He'll try to bite us or hit or kick us. If he can't reach us, he'll bite himself or smash his head on the ground. I really think there is something wrong with him, but DH thinks its just a typical toddler terrible 2's meltdown.

When he gets like this, there is just no consoling him. There is nothing we can do to calm him down or shake him from this funk. I don't even konw what to do.

  • ds does the same thing during timeouts. Lately he has started screaming "go away" and he looks possessed. I think (I'm hoping they just don't know how to control theri anger yet. If he is upset about something sometimes we walk away and go about our business and without attention he seems to snap out of it faster.

  • Oh my god-you mean I am not raising a future nutso?!?!  Yeah-my 2 yr old DS does the same thing and I am SO glad you posted this because it makes me feel better that I'm not alone and I can show this post to DH so he realizes that our kid isn't "messed up" or have problems.

I've talked to people around us/friends and family but I don't think they really understand how he acts.  DS does scream blood curdling screams like someone is killing him and he will throw things, tell us to go away and hit, kick or smash his head into the walls or floors.   We try to ignore it but sometimes they can last almost an hour!!!  Where does he get the energy for that crap?  Like yours though-he is a super sweet little angel 90% of the time.  It is like living with Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde!!!!  Good luck-I hope this stage passes quickly for all of us!

  • Just started. I swear...he turned two on Saturday and immediately started these AWFUL fits. He's always had a bit of an attitude, but it's gotten ridiculous the last three days. Terrible two's could not be any more true for him.
