Facebook question

Does anyone know if there's a way to temporarily disable your wall from comments on Facebook?  We're planning on calling friends to tell them I'm pregnant, but I don't want to start getting comments on Facebook before I'm able to tell everyone I want to.  I know I could just tell people not to post anything on F-book yet, but it would just be easier if I could "turn off" the wall for a day or so.

Re: Facebook question

  • Good question!

    I don't think there's a way to do that.

We have just told all of our friends that only close friends and family know for now, so please keep it secret...especially on FB. So far, friends have known for almost 2 weeks and no one has posted anything. I also check it often, ready to delete comments, if needed.

  • Loading the player...
  • Click on Settings -> Privacy Settings -> Profile.  Scroll down to wall posts.  You can change the settings there.

there is!  I actually had to do this too.  Go to the privacy settings and you can set it there.  There is a drop down, and it says who can see your wall, it can be friends, network, and then there is an option for no one or something.  I know its there...not exactly sure though b/c I am not looking at it.  but I know its possible.

  • When you call someone, just say "Hey, we haven't told everyone yet, so if you could hold off commenting on facebook about it, we'd appreciate it. Thanks!"

  • Yep there is!

Select settings at the top, then account settings, then notifcations.

It's listed under the first group of choices.  Just turn wall notifcations "off".

    HTH!

  • I know there is a way to keep people from writing on your wall because I have friends that I'll try to write something to and find I can't because their profile doesn't allow it. However, I can however 'comment' on a status update of their own. I believe you can find a way to disable this somewhere in your settings. Sorry that I don't know an exact answer but I do know it's out there...

  • Ignore my post.  It was wrong. lol.  That's to turn off emails!

Sorry, it looks like what someone else said about privacy settings is right.

  • Got it, thanks!
  • This is a great idea.  When we broke the news, we specifically said "don't call us out on FB just yet!"  But my friends would write all these comments like "What great news... Hope you're feeling well; please send pics soon" LOL.

OK OK so they weren't DIRECTLY calling me out, but a stream of comments like that, and people will eventually figure it out!

  • yes. go into privacy settings.. should be there.

i havent done it but have some friends who block it b/c of their jobs and dont want stupid coments posted by mistake.

  • hmm don't know if there is a way to do that. I actually just outed myself last night bc my FSIL was threatening to do it and i wanted to be the one to share the news. I just did it a wk earlier than i was planning on.
  • I didn't read the other comments, so sorry if I'm repeating the answer. Yes, you can temporarily disable wall comments by going to your account preferences. There is a box that you can check to disable wall comments. I am more paranoid than you, though, and have deactivated my whole account (you can reactivate it very easily later). Once I announce my pregnancy at work, I'll probably get back on.
