If you like Max as a name, I would use it as a nickname. Think of how her future job interviews will go - they'll see her resume and think she's a man, and it may not be to her advantage to have the name Max.

I know a Maxine who goes by Max, so Max for a girl doesn't seem so odd to me. She is one of my grandma's friends, though, so Maxine seems very old-lady. I don't like Max by itself for a girl (or a boy, for that matter).

Oops. lol. DH and I love the name for a boy and are planning on naming our son that if we ever have one.

Don't worry, my brother's name is Max (which I love, totally suits him) and when he was born the nurse at the hospital told my parents it was a dog's name.
It is an adorable name, but I don't think there is a name on earth that everyone you'll ever meet will like.
To the OP: I really think this name is way too much of boy's name.

No worries. I'm sure you wouldn't like some of my name choices, either!
Max is a boy's name. There are tons of pretty girls names or tomboy girls names already out there!
Ditto. Some things should be kept masculine. Everyone will automatically assume she is a boy, and there are some very nice gender neutral names out there. What about Logan, Devon, Bailey, Reese, Rowan, or even something like Samantha, nn Sam would be lovely.
Max is SO popular.... for boys and dogs. As a NN for Maxine, it's fine. I know someone who does this. But Max as a stand alone name for a girl? It's a bad idea, IMO.
I have to agree with PPs - as a nn for Maxine, it's fine, but alone it's too boyish. My MILs name is Shane, and her sister is called Lee, and they both say they wish their parents had given them girls' names because it just confuses people before they meet them, and they'd prefer real feminine names.
I kinda like it. Not sure what middle name would go with it, maybe you could make max her middle name. Like Emily Max, or something like that. I work as a cake decorator and have seen names go both ways, girls named Devon, boys names Ashley, and some people named Savannah and Taj Mahal. So it's your choice, feminine, masculane, landscape, or famous building!

I had a Great Aunt Max (my grandmother's sister) which was short for Maxine. I always though it was cute to have an Aunt Max. That said, I think Max should be a nickname for something feminine...from childhood through her professional career it would be nice for her to have a feminine name to fall back on.
Re: Max for a girl and what middle name?
This.
But if you do curse a woman with that name, please at least give her a feminine middle name so she can use that later.

I hope you would have the decency to name her Maxine. And I'm not actually sure that is decent, but it's better.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Max cannot stand alone as a girl name...maybe Maxine _____...but not MAX!
Please not pictures in siggy..
If my name were Max, I'd probably lie to everyone and say my name was a normal female name.
I can see her being called Maxi Pad all throughout school.
Dog name or boy name........Not a girl name!

There's a Maxie on General Hospital. Not sure why I never thought of Maxi Pad before. I generally think of Max as a boy/dog name too.
What about using Maxine with a nickname of Max or Maxi? If you go with just Max I think you should go with a feminine multi syllable mn.
