Just wanted to throw out a PSA that I found the liquid Calgon at Amelia's for $1.79! We go through it like water, so I was really excited to pay less than half of our normal amount!!
I've been meaning to ask you this but how do you tell if you have hard water? There is a pink residue in things that our water has been sitting in (like our humidifier). Is that a sign of hard water?

I'm not sure on things beyond ours, but I knew when we moved in because our water is REALLY hard - so I could literally taste it in the water. It's gross! It's also hard to get glasses rinsed really clean without spots. When I boil a pot of water, there are mineral deposits that are left as a ring on our pots and there is so.stinkin'.much limescale on all of our faucets and in the shower! Oh - and when we make icecubes even, they leave a residue - ICK!!
I'm not sure on the pink residue, but that would make sense if it's certain minerals that are leaving the deposits. I think there are companies that you can have come to your house to test your water, but we didn't even bother because we already know and we're going to spend the money to get a softener . In the meantime, the Calgon makes a really huge difference in the laundry! You could always try some RLR or Calgon and see if your diapers and clothes seem to rinse clean more easily and not be so stiff after the dryer.
Re: CDers with hard water (or anyone with hard water and laundry issues!)
